Can anyone help? Does personalising your car affect the warranty and more importantly does adding say non dealer fit foot well lights/parking sensors or even just paining the callipers cause problems to the Contract purchase Plan that I am under. I would love to tweak my Civic here and there but am worried that in three years time when I hand the car back and get a new one the dealer will run away leaving me with a big bill.

hi there
My dad leases his car's and I know that you cant do any mod's, and if you do, then you have to remove them when giving car back. But another problem you may face is from your insurance, as I did many many things to my Peugeot 206 before having a car crash just last month and they are screwing at me for not telling them about it. They also said that if i did tell them, they wouldn't have insured me as a named driver, as im under 25. Hope that helps? Jase |

Hi mate, thanks for that. As I suspected. I’ve not done anything to this as it’s my first brand new car and lease hire. I’ve always owned my cars in the past and have made subtle tweaks here and there, nothing major that would affect the performance or insurance. Just minor improvements to the interior, light etc. Think I’ll leave it as nature intended.

Dont worry too much about doing small mods lights tints etc as insurance companies do not increase your premium they just want to know about the mods. its only performance mods that are a pain with insurance. i have always modded my cars and never owned a used model in my life. i have purchased on pcp contract hire, hp etc and never had any problems. they do not affect your warranty as the manufacturer has to prove it was the mod that has caused the problems you may have. all they say is that the parts fitted by you are not under warranty. dont be afraid to make your car individual just make sure you dont ruin your pride and joy by fitting crap.

As Robbo said - anything that you can take off again is good.
Most dealers will want to return the car to dealer specification when you return it anyway - The added bonus to this is you can either put them on your new car (if they will go on) or sell them on and make some of your money back |

Thanks for the input. I don’t want to do anything drastic. That’s not my style. But I would like to add some ambient blue LEDs in some strategic places. In the past I’ve always upgraded the CD head unit but there isn’t much that can be done with the standard built in one other than fitting a multi changer unless anyone knows different. Was thinking of painting the callipers red but think after a while they will look tatty and need maintenance. Don’t want to have any problems when the car goes back so I think you guys are right. I’ll stick to temporary mods that can easily be removed without leaving any damage.

Somewhere in this forum people have changed the head unit for a double din facia plate for the new civic and fitted double din dvd player/sat nav so it can now be done. hope that puts a smile on your face.

I have changed a double din head unit in to a single one and used the spare space as a storage box in my last Volvo. That was the most useful thing about the whole car and is another story. ![]() Thanks for the info. I am dreaming of the possibilities! ![]() |
