Things I miss about my previous car, NOT, ...
I miss the way it cornered like a boxer dog on lino.
I miss the way it drank fuel like there was no tomorrow. I miss the crappy plastic interior. I miss the cheap paintwork that was chipped and rusted after only 2 years. I miss the brakes that made me find religion, afresh, everytime I had to do an emergency stop. I miss the customer service and support, for example when the gearbox went 3 months after the end of warranty they tried to charge me £3k to have it fixed. I miss having to stand around in the cold and wet waiting for the RAC everytime it broke down! I miss the laughter of my friends and collegues everytime I had to explain why I was late because of another break-down. I miss threatening the managing director of my local dealer that I would return the car for a full refund if it broke down again in the next 6 months - the only time it ran reliably. Most of all I miss the fact that I wan't able to put the car in the crusher when I got rid of it and bought a Honda. Oh, I love my Honda!!!!! |

I miss the presence,'old fashioned' quality and elegance of my now departed Merc. pillarless coupe W123.Oh,not forgetting the superb 4 speed auto transmission. With barely 68k on the clock, what a car that was.

Mine too held pride of place in the garage until I eventually gave in to my son's 3 motorbikes and constant mechanical works with them. The things we do for our kids.(He did do his best to work around the car, moving it etc,but the worry of damage was too much)

Failure of both front axels (before 15,000 miles) 3 radios 2 on-board computers 2 dipping mirrors 1 Oil Radiator (which is inside the water radiator - and caused the gearbox to fail) 1 Gearbox (see above) 1 fuel pump 1 Geabox Control Unit (£750 replacement) 1 Engine Control Unit (>£1,000 replacement) and a whole load of other bits and pieces including headlight, sidelight and taillight bulbs which blew with monotonous regularity (about every 2 to 3 months) The above is in addition to all the usual wear and tear you get on a normal high milage car (tyres, break discs, batteries, etc.) The sad thing is that I owned 8 Vauxhalls before this one and the worst thing that happened to any of them was a blown fuse. Alas, thanks to Vauxhall's attitude regarding the gearbox, I will never buy another General Motors car again. Just to keep this forum on topic, my Honda has already done 8,500 miles in 6 months and the most serious thing I've had to do to it is wash & polish it and top up the windscreen washer. Oh and take all my friends and collegues out in the "spaceship" and bask in their unbridled envy |
