And here's what it says about the Civic...

3 Honda Civic
Rating
83.4%
Overall ranking 12th=
The Honda Civic is a consistently strong performer in this survey, and this is its third successive top-three finish in this class.

Scan the results table and you'll find above-average ratings in every area, with the dealer service and vehicle exterior earning the very-good ratings. Quite simply, it didn't put a foot wrong. Owners reported that mechanical problems were few and far between, the build quality good and the drive enjoyable. The cabin layout and styling got a thumbs-up, too.

Not picking on any car, but these lists always look complete garbage to me. They likely indicate more about the owners than how good or bad the car is.
Three Skodas placed above the best BMW, I'm sorry but " I cannot believe it".

I can believe it, BMWs are very expensive to run and the build quality has got worse. This survey was conducted with the publics input.

Yep - it's all about perception

You buy a VW Golf and you expect 100% troublefree motoring, you don't get it so you mark it down.

You buy a Skoda expecting a few niggles, you only get a niggle or 2 so you mark it up.

Doesn't surprise my in the least that Skoda scores above BMW, my wife's had a BMW 1-series for three years now and the servicing (customer service) has been awful.

See! A few years ago a BMW was a solid quality car, I have been in my mates Series 1 and did nt like the build of it compared to a Honda, they are not cheap either!

I agree - it's a customer satisfaction survey so the lower the customer's initial expectations, the more satisfied they will be relatively speaking. I think.

Is this survey mostly about the dealership and their service? Did one questionaire for the TG one a few years back and 75% of the questions was about the dealer and if they "looked after you" well and not what YOU really thought about the car.

Not wishing to put the dampers on things, but.....

This survey would have included the previous gens of Civic which would have seriously increased the mark.

I wonder in future years how the latest Civ will affect the ratings ?

In respect to dealerships, after Renaults and Vauxhalls, just under £300 (for a discounted price) is alot to pay for a 2nd service especially as it is the first time I have had a car that needs services every 12500 miles.

However for comparisons, we should ask how much it costs NASA to service their spaceships!!!!!

remember the people on this website only represents a small number of the overall cars sold in europe. And thus any niggles reported here may not be replicated to the wider civic owner, hence Honda getting a high score in the survey. I have to agree with the verdict of BMW and the 1 series - it looks and feels poor quality inside and that is why it scores badly.

I take it that youve never owned a Skoda then...LOL
They are very very reliable and the service from dealers is superb.
Better than Honda IMO.
BMW dealers are rip off merchants

Robbo,
I'm sure Skoda's are fine cars, I just feel that these surveys give a false impression. Looking at that list, who would buy a Ford or French car, yet you see so many on the road.
Could it be that one set of owners are less inclined to complain than another, some owners remain loyal to a brand, no matter how good or bad it is.

I am afraid I have to agree with Robbo51 here, Skoda are fantastic cars, practical, well built and feel more expensive than they are. In which case the average person who buys one is getting a damn good deal and therefore is amazed at the quality they got for do little. In my opinion there are badge snobs who would never buy a Skoda because of it's history. Ford are cheap to buy and cheap to maintain - many people have them as company cars too! Again, as has been said, Ford is really making good cars now and that is because of the likes of Skoda, Seat, Honda, Toyota etc increasing the quality of their cars and putting pressure on the mass producers to increase their quality, and it is working. The new mondeo is a prime example.

Of course people are loyal to brands for many reasons but most of all it is there experience of the brand and everything connected to it - dealer, customer service and so on. Although in reality some people never experience a bad car with a particular brand and therefore have no reason to complain.

A friend of mine is a taxi driver. He has had a Skoda for the last year and says its the most reliable car hes ever owned. Even with the amount of miles hes doing its never broken down or had any faults.

Another friends boss who has money has always had Bmws. He recently got rid of his M5 due to having so many problems with it. It was at the dealers more than what he had it. He recently got the new M6 hoping things would be better. Lets just say hes had it now 3 months and its been back to the dealers twice already.
