Who will pay for the moulds? My estimation they will cost about 3000€ and they need payment in advance!

So it could take a while. 3 - 6mnth

Anyhow the transponder MUST be moved to the front of the key, there is NO other way.
I hope you are wrong about the 3-6 months! They are shut this week for their new year. We will have to see what they come up with mid Feb as they promised.
If you read my posts towards the start of this thread you will note I was willing to pay for the moulding from my pocket as long as there was enough interest from people wanting to buy it, which was why I started the poll.
They are a major manufacturer of all sorts of alarms and car electrical components including remotes and flip keys so I should think they know what they are talking about.

Time will tell whether your estimation of the timescales are right, but I hope they can produce quicker than that.

Naasir.

My estimate is based on "if they start now" I have no idea what stage they are in.
Like I wrote, I produce in far east China and TW. If somebody there can concentrate only on this project, it could go a bit faster... Hope so.

I have had some tools made faster, down to 3-4 weeks to first sample from approved print.

But usually it is 3-6 months from approved print to first production run.

Not always certain the first sample is correct.

I have also been wondering about the up front tooling costs in this project.

The firm was shut this week for the Chinese new year, reopening Tomorrow or Tuesday. Should finish designing it and hopefully produce an actual key by the end of coming week.

For those that are worried about who is going to pay for production of this key; it will be me, as I said towards the start of this thread. Aslong as 150-180 keys sell then the process will pay for itself. Going by the amount of interest this figure should be easily reached.

Count me in. But I don't understand how you would get our keys to be converted other than sending them in the post or is it a DIY affair. Call me a sceptic but I wouldn't be too keen on sending my car key in the post for someone to mess with. I will vote yes on your survey but it's gotta be a safe option.

I half expected to get a sheath to strap to my belt to keep my key in.

If it happens, it will be a case of removing the inner gizmo from your existing key and installing it in the flip key.
You will then need to take it to your local keycutter to copy it from your existing key.
You won't loose site of it mate.

Forget it:
There is a 99% chance that the transponder must be removed from the original board. This requires some special skills and tools.

There is also hope that new Honda cars will come with flip keys, so an original upgrade could be possible...

Hmm, I wonder if our keys could have the 'Panic' button that the American market has activated? the solder pads are there for the switch? (if you look above, it's the 4 solder point's right on the bottom of the transponder PCB) as you can see from the below shot

In the African/American markets it's common, it set's off the alarm after pressing it for a few moment's.

For people in car parks etc that get mugged/attacked whatnot.

I tested this "hidden" panic putton with my previous car (CRV) but it did not work.
Probably not implemented in the car software.
Did not test it yet with the Civic.
