I suspected you may have to solder it to the main board, but not a big task as its only 2 wires (I would use a thin kynar 30awg wire).

You will have exactly the same problem with the bentley style keys because of the flip mechanism so that will probably put a lot of people off (unless they want to take them to someone else to solder for them).

BTW Stef - Good job, looks much better than the original but I didnt realise it was quite that big.

Isn't it possible to ask the chinese factory to incorporate the chip as much to the front as possible?

The problem is the chip is on the main circuit board of the Civic's remote and there is only so far the original remote package can be placed forward because of the mechanics of the flip action.

It may be possible to move it slightly forward compared to the ebay one but I doubt far enough to trigger the immobiliser.

It is real metal chrome, not plastic.

Due to the lenght of the metal key it can not be made shorter.
Due to the width and hight of the original key internal, it can not be made smaller and thinnner.
I estimate it is 10% bigger then the VW one

I suppose the burning question for those of us who got an eBay flip key is- is it worth the hassle of hacking the existing key to make it work in the flip housing? For me personally I'm ok with soldering irons and snips so it ain't going to bother me that much...

For those that are waiting for the Ebay Flip key;
Do not let jou take away with the first impresion, it looks like a cheap plastic box.
Wait untill it is completely assembled to judge the key. Then it will look like in my pictures.

i might be able to help out in the essex/suffolk area.

i am a secondary school tech teacher, teaching metal work, wood work, graphics, electronics and textiles. electronics is not my best subject, but i know enough to get by, and i'm very competant with the soldering iron.

if it came to a situation where the new bently key worked but needed som soldering and people were uneasy with doing this. then i might be able to offer out my services if people get the key cut and then bring me their old key and the new key body i could do the transfer for people. it would be a 5 min job (guess).

and i wouldn't charge for it. call it services to the club. (but i'm not a travelling service, if you want it you got to come to me)

p.s. my job opened up a whole lot of eyes on the mr2roc forum when they found out what i had access to )

I find the mechanism made rather good, it is made out of metal.
Like I mentioned, I did add some silicone grease to the mechanism, also I did no tight the spring as much like original (about 1 turn instead of 2)

If you open the key, the flip mechanism releases itself, you will have to rewind the spring, upon assembly.

I work with Chinese every day
It will take a while to make all the moulds (plastic parts, metal parts, stickers..)
The test runs, corrections...

Who will pay for the moulds? My estimation they will cost about 3000€ and they need payment in advance!

So it could take a while. 3 - 6mnth

Anyhow the transponder MUST be moved to the front of the key, there is NO other way.
