LOL

I think this was my main reason for not going down the flip key route. No-one seems willing to cut them, or they need a bit of tweaking afterwards to get them working.

But I was poo-poo'd, and told that it wouldn't be a problem by others.

I admire your perseverence if you have a flip key, but to me it seems like a lot of hassle for very little reward.

Key Cutting

I had my flipkey cut at central locksmiths on Oldham Road Manchester, next to the large post office. He didn't blink an eyelid, just took the blank and my key, cut it tried it in my car and charged £8.

I have just spent the day getting my new key cut, Timpson had no problem cutting the key, worked first time, but for some strange reason the key will not disarm the immobilser of the civic??

i have swapped over the insides from the old key but it still won't work. do you need to program the car to accept the new key?

am I missing something here?

I am not sure what to solder, I opend up the old key and the two button unit was removed andplaced inside the new flip key.

i can see that to unsolder?

I think this was a bad idea from the out set

Got mine in the mail today. Have made the necessary modifications to the housing and cleaned it up a little.

Got a locksmith down the road who's cutting the key for me tomorrow for $7.95AUD - That's £3.64

Once the blade is cut and I know it works I'll do the transponder modifications.

Colour me happy !!!

Thanks to all the guys on here who did all the hard work figuring out the process so that all I have to do is follow their instructions...

Oh, and thanks to the guy on eBay who got it delivered to Australia in 5 days over the Easter Weekend!!!

Haha... Just lucky I guess. First guy I rang said he could do it but wanted $25. I thought "OK... not too bad"... went down there and as soon as he saw the key he told me that he wasn't prepared to do it becuase his laser cutter is not that good and he didn't want to destroy my "very expensive key"...

So I dropped in at another locksmith on the way home and they said "sure no problem, $7.95 but we can't do it 'til tomorrow as they guy who operates the laser cutter has gone home sick."

So tomorrow it is...

Nice. Congrats... Hopefully mine will be up and running tomorrow.

PS: What is this new Fuel Flap you mention in your sig? Is it just the mod to make sure it opens or is it an aftermarket one?

I ask because I am interested in a replacement fuel flap that is a little less flimsy...

Craggs in Cross Gates. I don't know how much he'll thank me for telling you but he is a sound bloke. Just say he made such a good job of mine blah blah blah. He did it by hand on a machine he had to blow the dust off from under his counter.

I've been to 4 key cutters and they wont touch it!!
Everyone says take it to a dealer!! LOL
Anyone know of a cutter in the Bingley/Keighley/Bradford area than will/can cut it?
I'm beginning to think Ive been very silly and wasted my money!!

Ahh... sweet.... Mine has a build date of Dec 2007 and the flap opens with quite a deal of force so I'm sure its already been done.

I'm just hoping to find an aftermarket one that doesn't feel quite so "cheap"...
