Flip Key cut in Fife..

Finally found an excellent locksmith in Glenrothes. trades under Glenrothes Locksmiths.

He looked at the Flip Key blank, quick check with the micrometer and cut it. Only problem was that he would not charge me, as he could not guarantee a blank he had not supplied. (now there is a professional for you.)

So, there you go, cut and FREE..!!

Key fits ignition perfectly, just got to move the transponder at work tomorrow...

Wildly off topic, but is that the same Glenrothes as in the very nice Single Malt?

Nice quote from Robbo51, sadly no, this Glenrothes is in Fife a new town with not quite the character of the whisky in question, a malt from Speyside about 95 miles north.. ..

Nice diversion though, prefer the Islay Malts to the Speysides, ah the choice....

I had the same problem. The blank is a bit too thick, it will need taking down by the guy or machine that cuts the key.

Just measured E-Bay Flip Key and would estimate its about two thou thicker than my original Honda key.

It fits the ignition and door lock perfectly though, works a treat no problems.

I thought this to be completely unreasonable and offered to increase what they had originally quoted but nowhere near that amount, bearing in mind all the man hours they have already put into designing the key and building it before asking me for a payment.
It makes no sense to me for them to not go ahead with this now as near enough all of the work involved in designing and building the key is done. I offered to pay upto £2,750 to have them made but got the feeling they would rather lose out on this deal than budge.
I think there were other factors in them deciding to throw this deal away in my opinion 'purposely', however I think it would be wrong to post up assumptions about them.

I know alot of people were looking forward to getting hold of this key and have spent alot of time posting/contributing/discussing on this thread. I am really truely sorry for having wasted your time and hope you believe me when I say opposing to what some posted earlier in the thread: I really did not intend on leading anyone on in circles, nor did I set out to waste your time. I truely believed we were getting somewhere with this firm and that we were close to a result. To those who posted saying these keys will never appear, I am sorry to say you were right.
I would like to say thankyou to everyone who took interest/posted on the thread and especially to those who spent time on photoshop/internet getting hold of pics of keys etc.

That was my understanding too. Have a read of the posts a few pages back explaining that the deal fell through. The company wanted to ramp up the cost of development and production. The eBay key isn't brilliant but for the money isn't that bad. The worst thing by far is getting the damn blade cut.

Mine was butchered by the lock smith who is going to replace it fOC and try again. If it doesn’t work this time I’m going to scrap the whole idea as can’t be bother with it anymore.

Hopefully the new Civic will come with the excellent flip key that the new Accord has.

Had mine cut today at my local key place - £5!
Sent it off now for the buttons to be put in to it and looking forward to its return by the end of the week.

I will let you know if it works.....

Hopeful the car will return from the repair centre before the key does
(I haven't driven it now for over a month and haven't seen it for 3 weeks...)
