Oh s**t! Good luck Allan!

the other option is to buy a 12w soldering iron, about £10. much cheaper than a new key at around £100.

I have a spare flip key if anyone is interested. I'll post details in the 'For Sale' section.

I damaged my transponder when I did mine. I only had a 25W soldering iron and thought I was clever enough to get away with it.

Turns out I wasn't.

HOWEVER: I figured that because the TS is attached to the Circuit board on this model key and was free floating on the last one that there was a good chance that the Transponder is actually programmed my one of the other chips.

Based on this I jumped on ebay and bought a 2nd hand (already cut) key off some bloke and went at it again - having bought a smaller soldering iron.

I was right - transponder from a key that has nothing to do with my car - soldered to my remote key electronics - works a treat.

The 2nd hand key cost me £8... Much cheaper than a new key from Honda - and now I have a spare battery as well.

-H

PS: the code printed on the TS of the key I bought was NOT the same as the one on my original - still worked.

I have received my replacement flip key after the key cutter messed up the first one and now I need to find a key cutter near north London.

Anyone know of one?.

I used a 12v soldering iron that has a car cigarette lighter on the end powered by a car charger set to 12v.

This was the only low powered one that i had and it wored great.

I found this seller who appears to have a better quality switchblade key.

This particular key is for the American market but I've contacted the seller and he does do a two button version for the European Civic.

I have ordered one as a sample to see the quality and will report further when I receive it in a day or so.

You can view the American three button version here:

I'd definitely be interested in your results allan. Looking forward to your write up. What flip key have you got at the moment? The standard ebay £11.99 one?

Yes, but I'm not too happy with the overall 'feel' of it and the quality of the spring return; but, for £12 it's pretty good.

This new one is a little more expensive, but looks a better quality (in the picture anyway!!!). We shall see. It should arrive any day now.
