One up shot to this is that the original 2 button flip key they sell is now down to £9.99 with free p+p!

I noticed another thread where some poor soul drop his key in a gutter. To cut a long story short he managed a replacement key (a flip key) with all the electronics already in there so I guess you don't have to butcher your original.

I have emailed the seller asking about programming the key, will report back when I here from them.

Got allan40alt's key in the mail the other day.

It's exactly the same design as the original ebay one but the quality is MUCH better. Better plastic. Better spring. Better finish on the chrome bit at the bottom.

Biggest difference is that with the previous model there was still a bit of movement in the keyblade when closed. This one is nice and solid.

Just overall feels more quality.

... and the blade that I had already had cut for the last one slotted straight in...

So I take it you just removed the blade from your lower quality key and slotted into this better quality housing?

I need to find this key seller again! I was going to go for the normal keys as they are now only £9.99 but you may have persuaded me!

Have a look at my posts #715 and #722 in this thread. Al.

PS: #726 gives the contact details of the seller.

There is a summary of this thread in the Wiki:

There you will also find the link to the thread where some members offer to make keys for others.

Hi there. there is a link to the seller on post #742 but unfortunately he appears to be on holiday at the moment

I bought 2 keys from the better quality guy that Allan40alt recommended. Cost me £25 for 2 and should be expecting them next week sometime. Here's hoping that I can get them both cut without any problems!

Timpson offered to do them for free but with no guarantees that they will work. Has anyone in the Edinburgh/Glasgow area had their keys cut from a proven place and can recommend them?

Have a look at my posts #715, #722 and #726 in this thread. Also look at Harlequin's post #746 as he had my key after Timpsons in Rugby cut it wrong.

He also confirmed that it was a better quality than the cheaper key.

Thanks robkian.

Does anyone know if all Timpsons use the same equipment when cutting keys? Will I get similar results from one to the other? Is it more down to who cuts the key? I suppose Allan40alt had his one done at a Timpsons and it didn't work....

As far as I know. The Honda logo on these keys is just a sticker so you can maybe source a red "H" sticker? Don't know where though.

I had my one cut by Glenrothes Locksmiths in Glenrothes, (not too far from you). He would not charge for the job as could not guarantee it would work. It does, super job.

Just got my "better quality" keys from the seller that Allan40alt recommended.

Have to say that I am not as impressed as I was hoping I would be.

The spring is quite strong and the chrome sections do feel quite nice but I have to say that the plastics that are used feel cheap and the fit of the whole unit is not brilliant.

The top section of the plastic with the single screw is slightly "twisted" to the side due to the tension of the spring on the flip so the case is slightly out on one side.

Have to say if this is the better quality key I wonder what the cheaper one looks like

This is just all my opinion however and I have to say that maybe I had too high expectations of what I was getting. All I need to do now is have the key cut and the mod on the transponder.

EDIT: Just trial fitted the transponder and though the unlock button fits perfectly the lock button is off by about .5mm because of this sometimes when you hit the lock button it catches on the casing and the button does not pop back out I bought 2 keys, will try the other one before i contact the seller.

Am I expecting too much?

I don't think you're expecting too much. I thought these'd be along the same 'look and feel' lines as, say, a VW or Audi key but sadly they are no-where near.

The plastics are very low quality, the spring mechanism is all-to-**** and the general 'fit' of the key construction leaves a lot to be desired. Also the blade can now be pulled out of position with your finger thus bypassing the blade 'lock' construction ultimately meaning the blade can flip out in your pocket.

I had to seriously mod my flip key in order to accommodate the proper key internals - I had the problem where the unlock button would catch in the recess and most of the interior had to be modded just to take the transponder etc.

In the end, I put some metal 'weight's' in the key to make it at least feel better and weightier.

After two months normal use I can now see that the flip mechanism is basically knackered and the blade sticks out about 2mm at the bottom and no longer sits flush in it's groove. Also the plastics show a hell of a lot of wear and tear. The flip 'button' itself has lost it's chrome finish and is now a dull copper shade.

Not good.

I might see how possible it is to mod a genuine VW or Audi key as the cheap Chinese keys are just that... cheap.

If you want my advice - you're probably better leaving it for the short term until someone actually produces one that's *much* better quality. I know £14 is a bargain price but I don't honestly think it's worth the hassle.
