Have to say that I am not as impressed as I was hoping I would be.

The spring is quite strong and the chrome sections do feel quite nice but I have to say that the plastics that are used feel cheap and the fit of the whole unit is not brilliant.

The top section of the plastic with the single screw is slightly "twisted" to the side due to the tension of the spring on the flip so the case is slightly out on one side.

Have to say if this is the better quality key I wonder what the cheaper one looks like

This is just all my opinion however and I have to say that maybe I had too high expectations of what I was getting. All I need to do now is have the key cut and the mod on the transponder.

EDIT: Just trial fitted the transponder and though the unlock button fits perfectly the lock button is off by about .5mm because of this sometimes when you hit the lock button it catches on the casing and the button does not pop back out I bought 2 keys, will try the other one before i contact the seller.

Am I expecting too much?
I had the same problem. All that is required is a trimming of excess plastic inside the case to allow the electronics to move closer to the flip release button. Really pleased with my one, had it in use for about 4 months.

Hi iamholam, the original cheapo key I had was OK, but I felt the chrome could have been better and the spring was a little weak.

Both of these items were better in the second key (the slightly more expensive one) and I felt the plastic case was slightly better as well.

eighteentee compares it to a VW or Audi key, but you can't expect that quality from a key that is probably 5 times cheaper.

I thought that for the extra few quid involved it was an improvement.

Sorry if my post mis-led you but if you compare your key the photo of mine in #722 you may see a difference. Maybe he's changed supplier?

Not at all allan40alt. I think I was just expecting too much to be honest, after all for £12.50 each, at that price I suppose you can't expect the quality of a VW key.

In terms of what eighteentee said about the key coming out a little from the case, I have a friend who has a genuine 407 flip key which does the same too. So maybe not German quality but at least on par with the French :P

Will take a closer look when I get time and then decide if I want to use it.

Just wondering - in your pics in post #722, it looks as though the plastic is textured, almost like the VW / Audi ones - is this right?

I wouldn't say that my plastic was textured. It's pretty flat. Nothing like the original Honda key.

I have been very tempted to purchase a 'flip key' and have been following this thread with interest. Despite the valiant input by allan40alt and others, I think I'll leave it until a definitely superior robust product becomes available. I think at the end of the day although it may cost a little more it will be worth it. (After all I have my username to protect)

There was a very slight 'texture' look (as can be seen if you click on the photo to enlarge it) and feel as opposed to a shiny smooth finish.

The one I had would have been fine for me had not the key cutter ruined it. I was going to order a replacement but the supplier was expecting a new type to arrive. I'll check his items for sale and advise further if I find anything. Al.

Yes, but I haven't found it listed yet.

This one was spotted by an earlier member: HONDA SWITCHBLADE REMOTE KEY CONVERSION CASE 2 3 BUTTON on eBay, also, Honda, Car Parts, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 23-Jun-08 07:18:24 BST)

..but I'm not too sure about it.

Ahh you mean the first supplier. Yeah not so hot on those keys... purely because they use the 3 key blank and not the 2 key civic version. It does look smaller than the "regular" design though.

I do feel the regular version has some uneccesary padding in size to it.

What we realy need is someone to get hold of the new switch blade key on the new Accord. Then we can investigate if the transponder and remote can be made to fit that housing. If so then it would be a qualtiy job.

Any dealers fancy opening up the key of their showroom car and posting the picture here?

Robbieee, now that looks quality. Whether it actually is I don't know but it certainly looks the part. Any ideas as to what is on t'other side? Next time I'm in a Honda showroom I'll ask to see the key. I think Honda refer to the 'flip' ignition keys as "Jack Knife Key". Thank you.

Where to get a flip key for US Civics

In the US, my 2005 Civic has the key and remote seperately. The 2006-Present civics finally got the key and remote combination. So far, I haven't found anyone that makes a Honda Remote Key that has the right key blade and Remote Frequency to fit the 2005 Civic. Anyone know where I can find a flip key to put both my remote and key together?

I've included a picture of my key and remote, pretty archaic isn't it?
