I spoke to Jason and sent him the picture of the bentley key with Sally's editted image of Honda on the back. Jason being the equivalent of sales manager or whatever they call it in China said he needed to speak to the engineer who would create the key.
The engineer said he can make a key similar to that of the Bentleys, but as I can't send them a sample for them to work from(Any of you happen to have a Bentley key sitting around that I can send?)it will take a little longer than normal. If we go for a simple key as that of the audi or vauhalls etc then from the day I pay them a mould fee we are looking at approx 14 days before I get a key to sample before giving them the nod to produce the rest.
If we want it designed similar to the Bentley's then it will take him upto 4 weeks to produce that key as it is alot more "complex to design"(engineers words)
What do you guys think. I would prefer to wait the extra couple of weeks and get the Bentley design key as opposed to the boring looking one.

I have won an auction on ebay for a honda key and hopefully will receive it on Tuesday or Wednesday. I will then be posting it off to China for them to get the circuit out of it for creating the key around it. The engineer will look at it when it gets there and then give me a definate answer as to whether he will be able to do it or not. But he did stress that the answer will most likely be a yes!
Some of you maybe thinking, why can't they get a honda key from a dealer there. I know they are most likely the same but I would prefer not to take that chance for the sake of a few quid, as if there is even the slightest difference then it would set this project back weeks.

Going back to what Illegal hunter said, if I understand correctly then he doesn't think this will work out. As I said in my opening post, I can't promise this will happen as I have never got involved in anything of this scale before. My biggest fear at the moment is sending cash to a company I have never before heard of in a country like China where I would have absolutely no chance of getting anything back if I am being strung along by someone. I am willing to put what I can on the line to get this to work out, but if it falls through then it falls through, you guys will be a bit cheesed off, I will be unbelievably P***ed off as I will have lost the best part of £800. But that is the chance I have to take.

Naasir.
I agree about the bently remote, its just the question of the button position!

Put me down for 2, i didnt think of that before!

Thanks for all your efforts on this, i am really impressed!

I'm confused on the actual metal key part of this venture.

Does the new fob use the existing part from your Honda key or would it require a blank on the fob to be cut?

Only I thought that these were fancy laser cut keys, which your local cobblers/keycutters would find nye on impossible to cut. This I believe is part of the security features of the car.

Cos of that I voted nope.

If it utilises all the Honda key parts and looked like the Bently one though, I might be tempted.

As this thread shows it is relatively simple. All you would be doing is placing the circuit and immobiliser chip into new key. The question of having the key cut has come up before. I will go and ask my local hardware store to see if he can do it. I have always assumed the only part they can't do is the programming bit.

Inside the key fob

Looked into this, and you are correct, the honda keys are factory cut. However my local hardware store HAS a laser cutter and therefore can duplicate the key onto a suitable blank blade. I did a quick search on google and made a few calls and it seems it is relatively easy to find locksmiths who are able to laser cut blank blades. There are even some mobile locksmiths who can come to your house and laser cut keys to cars, I would't advise this as I'm sure they would sort you out with a nice bill. But it does prove that getting the blade cut isn't as difficult as some make it sound. Found a site for a company that sells laser key cutters and the actual machine is the size of a small bench drill so it should be quite easy to find a keycutting place that has one.

I can't see what the fuss is about - I'd agree with Kremmen that it's a bit of a retrograde step to copy what VAG do. Keyless entry should be the way to go forward for Honda; my Scenic 2 had keyless entry and keyless go and I really missed the convenience of that when I got the Honda.

PS VW, as part of their rubbish customer service, ran over my Golf flip key and didn't replace it or even own up! I kept (by accident) my second Golf key so if any of you are THAT deperate for a bloody flip key then I'll send you a flip key! (Yeah, okay it won't work and everybody'll thank you own a VW, but what the heck)

Thats is extortionate, I found this locksmith in London and when I called him, his price was £12.50. As London is usually more expensive than the rest of the UK when it comes to purchasing most goods/services then I would expect to pay less than £12.50. Unless ofcourse you are living in London in which case £12.50 will be your going rate.

car keys locksmith cut Transponder keys microchip keys Broken carkeys replacement lock smith

I know on that site it doesn't list Honda as being a car they cater for, the reason for that is they don't supply or have the ability to program honda immobiliser keys. They can however laser cut a blank honda key as can any other key cutting store with a laser cutter. As we will be using the original chip and circuit then programming will not be neccessary. Please bear in mind I will be the guinea pig so if it doesn't work then none of you guys will have lost anything.

It is still early days, only started looking into this on Friday. I would estimate about 6-8 weeks, maybe a little more.
I am not asking anyone to commit themselves to this nor hand over any money until the keys are made and are here with me, and ofcourse work.

Each to their own mate. As mentioned earlier, I would be up for keyless entry too. It isn't however an option unless someone else here has the know how to look into it.
