Hi all, finally finished my flip key yesterday. I had to have the key cut through my dealer though as the normal key cutters wont touch them.
Anyway, after reading all the information I unsoldered the transponder using a 25w soldering iron. I applied the iron to the back of the circuit board with a craft knife under the chip. As soon as the solder melted the chip popped right off. Soldered on 2 very fine wires and rebuilt the unit. I was very pleasantly surprised when the whole thing worked about 10 minutes later. Cheers |

I finally finished my flip key late last night. The job is not easy at all. Although mine went well I wouldnt recomend doing it unless good with a soldering iron.
My father who is a electricain was confused as why I wasnted to do this to the key in the 1st place(old school), but kindly helped out. It was much easier having an extra pair of hands to hold the wire together. The hardest part was getting the blade cut. Took me 5 attempts to timpson, as each time it didnt quite fit the lock, but the manager persisted and we got there in the end, and I had a full refund! Thanks to all for the tips and hints, great help. Last edited by Shoulin; 14th July 2008 at 10:09. |

I would say its worth it, as the end product emulates the status of the car. lol - cant believe I wrote that.
It just looks better. I did get the reaction, (for the old key) " is that your type r key, looks like it fell out of xmas cracker" This comment was made by my ** with a new focus st2, - swine! but no more Is my key the but of his jokes! |

Someone posted here that it is posible to use the accord key.
You could rewire the boot key that it opens the doors, so it is not useless OR It could be possible that the 2009 Civic has a 2 button flip key. Then better to get one of these... |

I would agree with Stef. It's more than likely the 2009 Civic will come with a flip key designed to be used with Civics. We should find out soon and on balance I think it will be worth waiting for. |

Hey,
Wouldn“t it be easier to buy the new flip key from the new Accord and have it reprogrammed according your own car at the local dealer ? I do not think this would be cheaper but could be easier. Even if the new accord key has three buttons which doesnot matter if the transponder is programmed for an civic. http://www.honda.de/images/car/small...004_2008_s.jpg Just an suggestion ... Cheers |

So, now I got my flippy key cut, but as I opened it up to start doing the internals the spring jumped up in my face, vanishing into thin air...
I'll probably find the spring under any of the white goods in the kitchen, but then I certainly hope it is as easy to put back together as it was to take apart... |
