other manufacturers web sites
I've done my bit of complaining on this excellent site about my civic and also expressed how good it is too!
If you where looking for a replacement car(other than honda civic) - not that I am yet, where better to 'view' the car than on a site like this.So the point I am trying to make is, are other car makers supported with a site like this that shares its opinions - good or bad! It could influence your decision. |

I'd bet you'd find a forum to cover all the main cars you'd consider buying. The good thing about this forum is that it's for a very specific model (and age).

yea, but looking at other car forums will help you see that the civic isn't out of the ordinary in terms of problems. It does seem the pick of the draw no matter what make of car you buy.

That's sort of my general point RP. As seems to be human nature we only talk about something if we have problem with it - unless it's personal
I have to say after a month of ownership I am still very happy - no rattles or anything and I drive on terrible polish roads. |

I would never base anything on reviews and other people's opinion again. Everyone told me I couldnt go wrong with a Honda and they were wrong, lots of people on this forum are in love with their civic whilst others are having nothing but problems.
If a person was to ask Brodick and then ask me what experience the Honda Civic has given us the answer would be totally different. I will base my next car on personal choice taking in to account my funds, my needs and my gut feeling. No doubt lots of people will shout from the roof tops that it is a bad choice but in my case so was buying a Civic. |

I used to be on the Alfa Romeo forum, and if you just read that you probably wouldn't go near an Alfa as there were people there who made any problems people have had with their Civic disappear into trivialness. Problems with the Selespeed in particular seemed to be rife. But I still bought a 147 and had over 3 years of relatively trouble free motoring with it, and always enjoyed driving it (and looking at it!!)
Look on the Audi/VW forums a few years ago and you would also have seen many people stranded and left without their high-priced and supposedly ultra-reliable German cars for some time whilst the major problem with ignition coils was sorted out. Its a sad fact of life that some cars are made badly and unfortunately if you are the owner of such a car you can really do nothing apart from complain (and rightly so). Luckilly for most of us, most cars are made well!! |

TC makes an interesting point actually.
TC and Brodick sit at opposite ends of the scale. TC has had a nightmare time and Brodick has had a fantastic time with the civic. However, both points of view are valid and whereas TC experience shows us that there can be problems with the Civic Brodick shows us that the Civic can be a joy to own. When you are thinking about owning a car it is good to look at all points of view, forums, review and so on. But, it is also wise to go by what you feel is best for you, your circumstances and your budget. I read this forum before I ordered my Civic, but chose to buy the car despite the negatives reported. It was the same with my last car too! In my honest opinion I think that car manufacturer's are being made to change to 'enviromentally friendly materials' without being able to properly test them for durability - the paint is one such issue. Plus manufacturer's are constantly trying to cut costs because of shareholders ( I am not saying that is a bad thing ) but quality isn't or shouldn't be compromised! Dealer's are woefully inept at supporting the customer, who incidently ensures that they continue to operate as a business, when there are problems. The dealer to my mind should be on the side of the customer, but that isn't the case, sadly. In essence, all I can say is that every car make has it's problems! |
