Rear panel cracked

Crash, boom, bang, my bad. I was reversing into a tight parking spot in a shopping mall garage, and saw nothing in the reverse camera.

BANG! Aïe!

Turns out there was a horizontal concrete support beam just barely above the camera's view cone. I don't think parking sensors would have helped here, either, would they? The beam was so high up, and there was nothing beneath it (just an open gap to the lower floor of the garage).

Note to self: also check the rear view mirror when reversing.

I wonder what the spare part deal is in this case? Do I need to buy a full set of rear plastic parts, out of which only one gets replaced, or is this cracked part (see picture) available separately?

The centre section can be replaced. Mine has been done due to water leaks which are still not fixed and is getting fixed again! but thats in another thread. No idea about cost tho.

You can get the centre section of the reflector separately, but it's not cheap.
Holdcroft Honda are quoting £200 for the Type R version, and I would expect the standard one is very similar in price.

It's an expensive mistake, but accidents do happen and it could have been worse, at least there's no panel damage.

You would actually be surprised what the rear sensors will pick up.

Mine even pick up higher than normal kerbs that would have grazed the underneath. Also had it pick up a barrier that was about the height of your damage.

I took the car to the repair shop (which is conveniently located right next to where I work), and had it checked. They said it's not a serious problem (ie there are no electronics parts there that would get damaged by the moisture that gets under the panel - a relief), and that the spare part costs €320.35, and changing it costs €45. Thank goodness the camera wasn't damaged.

I'll get it fixed at some point then, I guess.

That sounds pretty lucky, if it was an accident and not a manufacturing defect?

Or was your point to bash the camera because you have parking sensors yourself? What's the point of that? We both have a Civic, and that's all that matters, no? Besides, the camera puts the EX LCD display to better use than sensors would.

The camera can't see everything, neither can the sensors I would take the repair bill to the mall guys - there are norms for almost everything these days and this includes parking spots. If theirs is not norm-compliant they must pay for the damage, it's the same case as with damage to wheels by potholes
