not worth it in my opinion unless you are doing a serious amount of miles a year plus plan to keep the car for a long while. Otherwise you struggle to get the money back that it cost you fit lpg. Plus the cost of lpg seems to be rising fast.

For the warranty, Honda must accept the transformation or even better must certified the transformation.
I've discussed about that with my dealer who told me that's would be highly unprobable that honda will certified a LPG system because they want sell the Hybrid system... On the other way if you want adapt a LPG system on your car, you've to do it on a new one... so the warranty will be cancelled |

The way the Russians seem to be controlling gas prices at the moment I don't think that LPG is going to be much of an economical option for the future.

Guy at work has an LPG conversion and was saying they've stopped the grants.
He reckons without the grant it's a total waste of money as the benefits don't add up enough to outweigh the initial cost, he reckons his is only just paying back because LPG has rocketed since he had the conversion done. |

Here in Portugal the LPG costs about half the price in comparison to regular fuel. I've only decided to get the Civic 1.4 because i have conversion in mind, as soon as the warranty is over.
The diesel was about 10.000 euros more expensive.. no way! But for about 1000 euros more I had the Opel (Vauxhall) Astra 1.3cdti (90hp). So, if it wasn't for the lpg conversion I would made another choice. |

In fact it has more common with oil prices than gas prices because LPG is a refinery by-product and not natural gas (hence the name Liquid Petroleum Gas). I've driven 3 LPG powered cars, one Daewoo Lanos and 2 Citroen Xsaras, and yes, it's cheaper than petrol, and quieter, but now, I'm not making 100.000 km per year any more, I would not do it again, because: - there is added weight (tank!), cost (spark plugs etc.) and complication to the electrics and fuel system, which results in more frequent visits @ the service stations, on one of the Xsaras 5 (five! pressure reductors and 2 electronica modules were replaced within one year - a turbodiesel is more pleasant to drive (higher torque) in everyday situations - at least for me - the more modern your engine the more problems with conversion, there are exceptionally good (mainly Dutch) systems but they are _really_ expensive |

I've owned two LPG cars. MINI and Omega V6, the conversion was worth it in the Omega but not in the MINI. However, LPG has got a lot more expensive recently and you're always at the mercy of tax increases.
Better to use the money to trade in for a diesel. There's a LPG conversion for Diesels as well, has an amazing effect on performance. Its burnt with the diesel and boosts the power up to the equivalent petrol level. So if you have an old 1.9 TD it'll have similar performance as a 1.9 petrol turbo. Complicated and expensive though. |
