More space in the spacious boot
My boot has always been somewhat messy due to nylon bags containing cleaning clothes, wipes, etc. I just discovered a hidden space that I can make use of, for storing such items. The underside of the luggage area cover (rear shelf).
I looked for some suitable item that I could hinge underneath the shelf, and I found this wire-mesh kitchen organizer: ![]() I hinged this organizer as in below photo, and utilized a pair of slide-locks at both opposite ends: ![]() So now my pieces of cloths, etc. are stored conveniently, not messing around: ![]() And they don't take up any significant space below the rear shelf: ![]() |

I liked that!
And it weighs down the rear shelf a bit - when i open the boot on windy days the rear shelf blows back and "stick" in open position. Have considered making it heavier - this is an excellent way. |

Maybe you should print some pictures and get that to Honda head office... that could be a very cheap mod that would increase functionality and storage of the 2009 face-lifted civic... If I had thought that up I would...

No, not in the least. There are no gaps at the hinges and the slider locks press the wire on the soft surface of the shelf.

![]() Fixing was a bit tricky. The shelf is made of some substance like pressed and bonded wood dust, so it is weak for holding fine screw threads. There were 5 holes on each lock, and I used all of them, screwing not vertically through the holes but at varying angles, so the screw lengths would also contribute to tear-off resistance. Here is a crop from the original photo to show how the lock holds the wire. I did not use the omega-shaped counterpart. ![]() Thanks to all, for approving comments... |
