My Civic has gone into the body works place to get the damaged repaired that was cause by a white van man a couple of weeks back.
Avis have supplied me a hire car but its a Megane It really makes you appreciate the Civic's interior styling. Also its keyless entry but the key is the size of a small mobile phone! Last edited by matg; 11th March 2008 at 11:31. |

Ouch... a Renault.
Watch it with that key... A friend of mine once dropped her mum and work and drove to work herself... and once she had turned the engine off realised her mum had the key in her handbag! |

I really miss my 03 plate Megane - so fewer problems than the Civic and much better suspension / ability to drive over uneven roads etc!
Had a nice panoramic sunroof, heated seats, keyless entry, mirrors that folded with the ignition turned off and paint that didn't scratch just by looking at it!! |

Having also had a Megane as a hire car ....... its at least as well built as a Civic - and probably better in some respects, and has better suspension and lower road noise. Other than that, its a pretty average car, but remember - whilst the Civic is good in some areas, its poor in others (build quality, suspension, road noise, paint quality and finish are all poor areas).

The thing that amazes me is how some of these cars get past the testing stages.
With every car I have bought, within a few hundred yards out of the dealer I know what is wrong with it. I knew straight away with the Civ that it had hard suspension and the i-shift was flawed. everything else just fell into place. The suspension seems to me to be mellowing with age (IMO) and the i-shift, after the software upgrade does seem better. Never needed to visit the dealer during the first year though which cannot be said for the French cars I have owned. |

2 years ago Avis supplied me with a 1.4 Golf Plus.
Big internal space, better quality than Megane (of course), but nothing special at all... |

Whereas the Civic is Space Ship like, that Megane, with that rear end, looks like a skip on wheels!

I have had a Megane for 3 years and I think it has been a great car. It has been fairly practical, but a bit too small to be comfortable in the back seat.
Most of all this was a very economical car. It cost me less than 2.50€/10 km, all inclusive. Then I also count new alloys, winter tyres and a second set of summer tyres (which is about 10% of the total cost I have had with this car). As for quality it was not better or worse than most other cars, even though the build quality may be better in more expensive cars. It has seen its share of the dealers repairshop, but if the Megane Sport (225 hp petrol or 170 hp DCI) wasn't so damn expensive I would really consider to get one of those instead of a Civic. |
