When I filled up a few weeks ago, V-Power Diesel was around 6p/l more than the regular diesel, with regular diesel being around 4p/l more than regular petrol. There was a time last year (late summer/Autumn-ish IIRC) when at a few local garages, regular diesel was 3-4p/l cheaper than regular petrol. I only noticed this at Esso garages, and sadly, it didn't stay that way for very long! |

No it was like for like, granted it was a local station out of town away from any competition. But I did think it was a huge difference. |

I say the government should limit these big companies to £1-2 billion profit a year... so they should be forced to reduce prices... |

Different compaines, possibly refined in different places, meaning one tanker has to travel further than the other which cost more money depending on how far it is. Plus your more likely to go to Shell if they are cheaper aint you?

Esso has had a policy for a few years now. --
They will always be cheaper than any other forecourt within one mile of them, even if its only 0.5p. Now someone is going to prove me wrong I think. |

We have a Mobil and ESSO station within 50m of each other, they tend to be the same price.
Changing the subject does anyone else look at the price of crude oil in the papers, two weeks ago it was at $110 dollars a barrel, it is now at $100 dollars a barrel, yet the price is yet to come down, before anybody says it will take time for the stations to get Diesel refined from oil at the lower price. it never works the other way. We should all leave the cars at home for one day and use public transport, now wouldn't that be fun! |

There was a suggestion doing the rounds on the web last year that said if everyone didn't fill up on a wednesday (for example) it could cripple the Petrol companies and would be more effective than the blockades a few years back.
The problem is the tax the government put on fuel - not only the money the Petrol Stations make. They tax us for buying the car, driving it on the road, putting fuel in it and now they want to introduce mileage tax! B@st@rds! The supermarkets have the cheapest fuel and generally don't make much profit on it at all - their cash comes from all the Twix bars and chewing gum they sell and from hoping that you'll pop in for your weekly shop when you're filling up. Obviously some of you like your premium fuels, but if you do serious miles, most will probably be happy to get the cheapest they can. Anyone got any suggestions for the best "Points" system about? Morrisons seem to offer a good one - I get a £5 voucher for every 4-5 fill ups.... |

There's a shell credit card that gives you like a 3% rebate or something like that...
And the Asda credit card gives you 2p off every litre... |

i like the idea of colour match fuel, the milano red is the new red diesel!!! if you can invent a dye removal filter, then you will not worried if diesel is £5 a litre, as you will be on you own island setting your own prices from the proffit!!

Urban Legends Reference Pages: Don't Buy Gas on May 15 as to cheapest fuel / best deals... For those non-brand-followers amongst us Yes, Morrisons do the £5 back deal - can't remember the exact details but think you're right on the 4-5 tanks worth. So roughly £200-£250 of fuel gets you £5 Tesco are one of the other obvious ones, with club card points. I usually fill up here (as it's convient for me). In the last 3 months, according to my statement, I got 407 points That's probably over about 10-12 fill ups. Which means they gave me... Hey, hang on £4.07 for the £500-£600 of fuel! Morrisons.... Although, to be fair, Tesco often tun the 5p off per litre if you spend more than £50 on groceries offer, so that adds up to about £2.40 off a full tank. |

Whatever happened to supply & demand bringing prices down. Diesel started to go above unleaded prices when all the reps changed to diesel cars for efficiency. I don't believe the hype about the costs of the extra refinement needed for cleaner burning diesel as this should surely be happening anyway. Also, it is a very well known fact that the oil companies reduce the amount of oil produced in order to raise the price per barrel, this is not usually a policy that industries struggling to keep up with the demand tend to adopt. As for fuel being more expensive in remote areas due to transport costs why is it then not cheaper near the refinery's?
Has anyone noticed that the government has never changed the price you can charge per mile for using your own car for work purposes? I think this was set in the 80's (40p/mile for first 10,000 & 25p/mile after that) which is supposed to cover all aspects of running a car including the purchasing. We are now in another century. There aren't many cars that can be run for this pittence. I bet motoring is one of MP's expenses that they are trying to block being made public. Bring back hanging - or is that a step too far? I'm not complaining with what I've got but when I return home to my normal house in my normal car I do find it hard to sympathise with the oil companies fat cats & their billions of pounds profit. Rant over for now!*!* |
