UK conversion

Has anyone ever tried to import / register a Civic bought in continental Europe to the UK?
What problems did you run into?
I need to get my EU car registered, but I am running into lots of obstacles to get the speedometer converted… want to know if somebody actually managed to do it…
Honda actually suggested that it was simpler to buy a new car

(but I can promise it will not be an Honda...

)

When you say the speedometer converted, has your model not got the MPH/KPH switch on the dash ?

No, shows only Km/h... there is no switch (saving of about £1/car) and no menu option like the "local" cars (saving of about £0 / car)

from memory. only Uk spec cars get the button

HOWEVER, might be worth checking out Pottsy's How To correct the speedo - I think the box he uses might be able to do the conversion...

Yes, only UK cars have the mentioned switch.

Watching 5th gear the other week, they did say don't bother importing your own car, much better to get someone else to do it. It's not just the speedometer, its indicators, brake lights, fog lights and other stuff to make it UK road legal.
