Hey,

Thanks mate.

Ah you have spoken to SuperChips about it already. Cool.
May be it is something they will look into as more & more Civic owners chase that little extra performance.

When I bought my previous car (03 plate Civic Type S), I was also contemplating a Corolla. Toyota had just launched the Auris. While visiting the dealer I walked past an Auris & only noticed it wasn't a Corolla when I approached it & noticed the huge day-glow orange sticker along the side proclaiming "THE NEW AURIS". You certainly couldn't mistake the spaceship for anything else. When I eventually found a Corolla on the forecourt,I sat in it & was put off straight away. The dashboard reminded me of some sort of Fisher Price toddlers play centre. Also, due to the fact that it was raining, the salemen stayed inside watching me through the window.
Just my thoughts on the Honda/Toyota debate.

To me the auris is the middle car, by that I mean I think they launched it because they needed to because of the Civic and the impact it made. The Auris is certainly no head turner, but in poland anyway it is outselling the Civic, mainly due to the Poles love affair with Toyota.

It really is a boring car and not one I would consider buying. Toyota were very conservative with the shape and I think it will change over the coming years.

I agree. The Auris is far too similar in styling cues to the corolla IMHO. Toyota completely played it safe on that count so why did they try to reignite the brand by changing the name but not the aesthetics. Having said that, many models in the past were styling disasters. The only saving grace was that you don’t have to look at the car when you’re driving it and they were superbly reliable and decent to drive. Unfortunately Toyotas reputation for reliability is now suffering the same as Mercedes did. So you’re left with not very inspiring cars that aren’t as reliable as they once were.

Having already owned two Civics in the past and driven many other Honda’s there really isn’t much else out there to compete. Biased?…. perhaps, common sense and value for money?....definitely!

As a minor point, the Auris also has a much smaller boot than the spaceship.

The Auris is basically the same car as the Corolla hatch... which I have, the 2005 version. I have the 1.4 VVTi version and it's a fantastic car, but I need a change. Picking up my 2007 1.8 Civic Exec next week with the beige leather interior. Really looking forward to it

I did consider a few cars, including the Auris and Avensis. Had a chance to view the Auris, as the Toyota garage is situated right next to Honda on Stratford Rd, Solihull. I had expected something a bit more exciting, but it reminded me of my PUG 307.

Had my 2.2 Civic for 10 days, and my mix of motorway and urban is giving me 38 mpg - and I am not heavy footed at all. Hopefully this will improve.

One question - Do you get some sort of device to inflate a punctured tyre, as I don't appear to have anything!

Take a look at the little 'hidden' compartments on each side of the boot. Hopefully you will find some secret presents ?

Hi Dan,
You have been reading my mail!
Some years ago I had a tour through one of the top Italian vineyards and saw the complete wine making process.
The cheap plonk was rushed through with no time for quality, just introduce a kick, shove in the cork and the less discerning punters won't notice the difference. On the other hand, the quality wines were treated with great care in the preparation and selection of the best grapes to ensure customer satisfaction and that the product lived up to the label.
If only Honda had taken care that the 'NEW' Civic lived up to the quality label we usually expect. You know the difference having worked on both brands. The Jetta has a solid dependable feel to it compared to the Civic, but obviously you loyalty has to switch when you move camp.
My Son drives an Impreza which does exactly what it says on the tin, but the interior looks and is pretty spartan, but is unpretentious.. The Civic uses smoke and mirrors to make it look quality, but it is only skin deep.
What idiot made it necessary to first remove the REAR centre cowling, remove the FRONT cowling, etc, etc to get at the radio to have a hands free phone kit fitted. The phone fitter says it's the worst design he has ever worked on.
Agree? probably you won't!

Hello Jazzman,
I thought you were supposed to be in London running up some congestion charges - have you tried Night Nurse, it's very effective and much cheaper. Mind you Night Nurse is bad for blood pressure and you having a Civic means that condition may just be round the next bend. Civics can drive you round the bend very easily, so keep taking the tablets. My phone kit fitter's hands are so damaged by getting at the Civic radio, that his surgeon says he may never play the piano again - His neighbours are over the moon at the news, so the Civic can after all, reduce stress.
Wind you up? not me!

Good to hear from you my Honda Hating Friend. Yes we went up to London Saturday morning and back late last night after wonderful STRESS FREE and COMFORTABLE trips and an overall fuel consumption figure including London traffic of 42.6 mpg
Regarding Night Nurse or Horlicks neither of which are needed as we have a most relaxing form of travel which is called a HONDA CIVIC, stress free and trouble free.
Happy Easter to Eddie the Jett

Hi Jazzman,
You must have thrown out all the magic seats, spacesaver wheel AND most certainly the Wife to get near 42.6. Or is that your top speed you are referring to?
I am so happy with my Jetta, I think I'll pop out and hug a tree - but certainly not the one you are barking up in your choice of transport.
At least you got home safely - shows the power of prayer, or has your handbrake been installed. Handbrakes are standard in the Jetta, not an optional extra like the spacesaver wheel!

Cheerio,

Eddie the Jett. Remember the Samaritans are only a phone call away.

You may love banter, but it's bad for your teeth - and so is a Civic when you hit a bump.
