Does your ashtray smell?

Mine does! It smells very stongly of Iodine, so much so that it makes the car smell like a hospital. I'm not sure if it's the material its made of of it the previous owner put something in it.

I did that with my first BM, previous owner smoked like a chimney, and the car stank when it was shut up for too long, I cleaned everywhere, all the upholstery, the ceiling everything, including the ashtray which i filled with zoflora for a while to clean it, so possibly he did the same thing?????

ATB,
Tom

I couldn't work out what the strange smell in the car was and finally tracked it down to the ashtray. As it's not the meterial its made from I'll soak it in something (I could remove it but then the front cup holder won't work).

How? My cup holders work fine! Infact have you noticed with the ashtray in the back cup holder is larger than the front? By removing the ashtray you make them the same size! Did you also notice there is a bit at the front of the door for a bottle of something?

Maybe this topic should be "Does your ashtray stink?"
Everything has a smell but only some actually stink...

Well, mine doesn't stink.... Just smells normal plastic...

I cannot smell anything in my car except DOG.
I bought one of those hanging air fresheners, which I attached to the rear grab handle. The b-gger ate it.

You don't do dogs them gray. ?
If anyone had said to me 10 years ago, you will one day have a dog in your car, I would have never believed them.
Funny how one's priorities change.

Someone else can smell it too...

Thunt, I thought I was going mad! I've noticed it too, although mine smells of 'new car smell'. Unfortunatey, it's the only bit that still smells new.

I'm upset that my car doesn't smell of leather anymore too

My Ashtray smells too! My car is new and it's a strange smell that contaminates anything that you put in there. Whilst I don't use the ashtray for anything like cigarettes I did want to put chewing gum in there, but I have stopped now the smell was contaminating my chewing gum.

It's a strange one.

Mine too.
Use it for coins and swimming pool entrance chip, so it doesn't really matters.

I think that the issue is:

with the ashtray in place, there is a curved 'bit' on the side of it.
If you then put your starbucks coffee in the gap, and slide the centre bit of plastic up to it, the cup is held in by 2 of these curved bits.

If you take the ashtray out, the bit it uncovers is flat - so the cup is only held in by 1 curved bit, and a flat bit.

If that makes any sense at all!
