We have liftoff!

Well the waiting is over. My new spaceship arrived yesterday. My parents decided to come with me to the dealers yesterday, just so they could get a ride in the new car! And also to claim the £100 Honda offer for referals (my father was a customer and sort of refered me). Big thanks to Chris at Southern Honda (great bloke). For myself I got two Honda keyrings (photos soon along with the car) and my mother got a bunch of flowers. I was hoping for a box of Maltesers but I'm told this are issued after a service!

Didn't get much driving done yesterday 'cos the weather was crap! Went out today and took it down the A24 from Crawley to Ashington. The back up the A24 to West Grinstead and cut through to Cowfold, along the A272 and onto the A23 before heading home. A nice long drive to get a feel for the car.

Cruise control is an absolute must when speed cameras are around.

I love the little computer that tells you how many miles until you need to fill up and the ever-updating average mpg figure. At one point, I was driving so economically (4 - 6 eco lights), that had I carried on, I could do aprox 502 miles before I needed to fill up (on a petrol engine)!! My current average mpg figure is around 37.6 which isn't bad. It's going to get hammered though as the journey to work is only 3 miles. I'm hoping to move jobs soon (possible job in Steyning) so I can cruise down the A24 everyday and up that average mpg figure!!

One final thing - the car is big. Having come from a Peugeot 206 to this, you notice the size difference.

Regards,

Stuart

The cruise control is wonderful, especially to improve your mpg. But I would try to hold off a little for the first few hundred miles. Reading the running-in wiki suggests that constant speeds are not the best way of covering the first few hundred miles.

Up to you how you run the car in, of course, but may well be worth a good read of this:

I have done about 1800 miles now and the mpg figures are still improving.

Enjoy

I had a look at that last week to see how to run the car in ready for this weekend. About 2/3 of the driving today was done on A roads, and round here they vary the speed limits from 40 - 70. They also like to chuck in roundabouts and traffic lights so plenty of slowing down and 'proper driving'.

Regards,

Stuart

Claiming the £100 referal fee was a great idea, better in you Dad's pocket than the dealers!!!

Enjoy your new car!!
