Think again, open roads are rarely empty, prats come the other way, especially young berks (usually in GTI's)...... in fast cars, thinking the road aheads clear (there is always one, especially if your driving slow and a GTI hurtles round a bend towards you). Never drive faster than the distance you can see ahead, i.e. don't floor it if you've only got 60 feet till a corner, 60 mph on NSL roads with 100-150 yards infront should be ok, depending upon prevaling conditions. Then there is farm machinery, mate of mines mum died when she hit a tractor rushing to pick him up from school. Then there is pheasants adn other aminalia, they come out of nowhere.

ATB,
Tom

I've seen plenty of people my age driving round like nutters, but is it really worth it?!

Imagine it this way, you've just passed your test and are driving on your own. You arent used to a lot of new things on the road that you've never encountered before.

Now lets say you accidently hit someone, not saying you would, but its a possibility right, well you could either kill yourself or you could kill the other person and have that on your concience.

P.S Tom, is aminalia really a word? Never heard it before

Aminalia, is a sort of spooneristic take on Animals A-min-a-ls / Aminalia pleural.

I agree, whole heartedly, when I first started driving I had to drive thrpugh Sevenoaks town centre, not fun at the best of times, this was mid afternoon, havng just got off school, early, (no afternoon lessons ). I was driving through, now the road breaks at one point near the top and to get across you have to get your a*se in gear. I went across in my corsa, and immediately slowed to 20-25 mph, people step off the pavements all the time and so I thought it sensible to do so. Luckily, it was me, as most take the Highstreet at 30 mph plus when it's clear. A little girl ran out in front and I hit my brakes (my instructor would have been proud!), I stopped about 5-10 feet from her. The mother berrated me for driving to fast (perceived speed rather than actual one thinks). I don't think I'd have driven again if I'd hit her........ even if I was under the limit. Things always happen when you don't expect it.

Another tale, friend of my fathers, his mother, very religious lady of Caribbean origin, church every sunday, real upright citizen, never sped, always drove properly by all accounts....... passing a school one afternoon kid ran out in front of her from between two cars, she hit him, even though she tried to brake, and killed him outright..... wrong place wrong time.. she hasn't driven since, thats got to be coming up 6-7 years (?).

The majority of fatal accidents happen on Country Roads and the roads in and around Edinburgh (even the City By-Pass) can be hellish for drives like myself with a few years experiance.

I've grown up seeing what happens to young (i'm talking 17 to 25ish here) and some older folk who think they can drive on country roads and seeing a mangled wreck on the back of a transporter on a Sunday morning is a stark warning to anyone! Needless to say everytime i've seen a vehical in this state at least one of the occupants have died

In all fairness, revving the 1,8 above 3000 rpm is hardly dangerous driving.

Im sorry but to have a car like that as a first car is asking for trouble and I just hope to god it doesnt end in tears for you or anyone else.

He is hardly going to sit in the driveway just revving is he?

Its kids like that which cause death and serious injury because they are too inexperienced to handle speed.

No, but I donīt see the danger in revving over 3000 rpm in the right situation.

Inexperienced younger drivers are overrepresented in accident statistics, but that does not have to mean that Iluvtobereved is a reckless driver.

If all he wants to do is sit an rev his engine he can do that with an adult sitting next to him !!

When children say things like;

"Im just going to accelerate very fast" that spells danger in my book

"Im not the best driver or the worst driver" No at the moment he is a learner driver which means he is inexperienced.

A Type R for his 21st - such a shame I always think you appreciate things in life so much more when you actually have to work for them !!
