Unhappy Im not too happy

The reason being is that for my 17th birthday i got a 1.8 sport alabaistr silver civic and fully fitted with extras and the problem is for now i can't drive it without an adult sitting with so i just can't wait to pass so i can the revv the engine and enjoy the noise it makes after 3000 revs.

Blimey Iluv, I don't know what to say, I think I had a shaving brush for my 17th. I'm now wondering what you'll get for your 21st.

Too much for a 17 yr old if you ask me. Wanting to rev the engine and go fast at that age is irresponsible and its why I pay more for my insurance.

I have to agree with the above, it's a fast 1.8 (thats the Vtec for you) and rember you only get 6 points now, not like us oldies who get 12

Have fun but be careful,
Tom

Too much for a 17 year old. I hope I'm wrong, but "i just can't wait to pass so i can the revv the engine" makes me think it could all end in tears.

To be fair 4 years ago before i passed i was like that and im sure most people were and we are ok.
People drive more powerful cars at a young age and are fine.
Im sure it was a sweeping statement and "ILUV" will be very careful

Well I know (hoping I don't fall foul of forum rules here, please be aware this cautionary and was done like 4 years ago).

When I passed my test I had a fully kitted out Vauxhall C*rsa (I know don't throw stones), I loved it, (skirts, bumpers, stealth shelf, Alloy wheels, radio upgrade the lot), passed my test one of the first things I did was see how fast it went, I was young and inexperienced and realise now three figures in a V C is not sensible (and it took an age to get there, it was only a 1.2 16 valve). Suffice to say, I almost hit someone, when changing lanes, scared the total s*it out of me, and I suddenly realised I wasn't Michael Schumaker, and that my perceived ability was far lower than my actual ability, so ditched the car a bit later, and got my first BMW, I coveted that car, I wrapped it in cotton wool, and took my pass-plus (big difference in 'driving' [all that crap to pass your test], to "Driving!" [properly and sensibly]). I still managed to prang the back of my BM on a low wall.

Just a cautionary tale, with me it could have been much worse (I realise I could have hit the car, my corsa would have folded and I'd have been a smear on the asphalt), I realise that now, and going fast, when your in the wrong place or don't know what your doing, because lets face it none of us are perfect drivers, many are better than others, and just having that pink permit means nothing, it having a drivers brain, which does come for most people in time.

Drive your car properly, and you will look a lot cooler, save your self money and stay alive.

But of course we all know this, so why did I write it all.......

Any way (I got this from my BM'), why drive fast?????, people can't see you in your bl*ody gorgeous car!!!!!!!!

ATB,
Tom

I drove a far more powerful car, at that age, and still had a couple of narrow escapes, we arn't chiding, just giving advice, on this subject, afterall, remember this, if the car don't kill you your mother certainly will!!!!

Even so, in that split second of accelerating, are your 'skillz' (I believe thats how the kids of today say it ) up to it????, can you decide upon all the dangers, around you??? The reason a learner driver learners sedately is because your really no good to begin with (no one is, except for me, I was just brilliant from the start lol), but like wine, your skill matures with age.

Tom
