I found out last night that the police can arrest you for accelerating too fast.....apparently it is covered by Driving without due care and attention and is punishable by 3 -6 points plus a fine. ATB, Tom |

I think it is great that a 17 year old likes a honda.
I would have gone berserk to have a car like the present civic. I passed my test in a 1981 honda accord saloon and that blew me away at the time. All my mates hated hondas they all wanted ford RS's etc. The youngsters will be hondas future customers for years. So good on you mate enjoy and becareful. Buzby |

Come on guys give the guy a break. What does it matter how or who has financed it? Jealousy is a terrible thing, especially some one nobody knows. Can no one remember when they were 17?
He's obviously said something he regretted & now he's apologising, which in my eyes makes him a man. He could have got a lot faster & cheaper car if he wanted to 'boy race' it. Enjoy your car mate! |

I say good on you for buying a nice car, i reckon if anything it'll make him a safer driver, there's probably a big difference in driving attitude and safety between driving a brand new civ compared to a lot of young drivers in already bashed up novas and fiestas. If the car's already a bit of a wreck, i'm sure a lot of drivers aren't going to be too concerned whether they get a couple of more dents!
As for the speed, there's also a lot of young drivers in golf gti's, saxo vtr's, 205 gti's etc, they are all a fair bit quicker than a civic.... As for the comments, i'm sure that if a middle aged member came on here and said that they just got a type r and can't wait to rev the nuts off it, no one would have a problem, just cos he's a bit younger you all have a problem? Although i would have to add at this point that i do agree that however good a driver you think you are, driving ability increases so much with experience and mileage. As a 2.2 driver, i am very aware of the capabilities of my car, and i also do enjoy the odd heavy foot acceleration, i'd be surprised if the majority of the people on this forum never accelerated hard. Last opinion of the post: I would consider more bad drivers on the road to be 35yrs+ rather than young drivers. Yes you do get the prats who just want to sling their hot hatch sideways round a roundabout, but the majority are fairly sensible as i think a lot of them are still slightly nervous on the road as they are still gaining experience. In my opinion, the worst drivers on the road are slightly older members of the planet who have somehow decided that as they have been driving longer than some other drivers, they no longer need to indicate, or pay attention to what is happening around them and think that they own the road. It is people who don't pay attention on the road who cause the majority of accidents because they've become too lazy to adhere to the rules of the road. Just to give some insight on the above, i'm 25 and drive around 45k per year. Last edited by pekwah1; 11th April 2008 at 00:24. |

My Type S is actually my first car (admittedly I was 28 when I passed my test last year!) Within the first couple of weeks I made small scuff marks on the alloys from getting too close to the kerb when parking and about two months in I got too close to a concrete pillar in my work's car park and managed to scratch the door and snap off the passenger side wing mirror!
So I'd agree with pekwah1, it does possibly make you a better driver because the horrendously bitter experience of damaging my car so soon after getting it has made me much more aware of my surroundings when I drive. No way do I want any more dings in my beautiful car! |
