Thumbs down Recall Web Site/Page

Having returned from my local dealer and advised that as well as carrying out the work to rectify the Handbreak issue/recall they had also done the fuel flap and I was a little surprised at this. This was rectified back on the 12k svc (I'm now on 25k > 27k svc!). They explained to me 'They like to check'.

As I have had no issues with my flap since the original rectictification work I decided to investigate. So I went to the Honda site and checked on the 'recall status' on my vehicle - knowing full well it would not have updated in such a short time. On accessing the site at Honda (UK) - Cars - Owner - Online Check the following was displayed:

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ++++++++
Recalls and Updates Online Check

Your vehicle summary

Model: CIVIC 5DModel year: 2006
VIN number: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

According to our records there is some outstanding work to be carried out on the VIN you entered.

Please contact your local dealer to arrange for it to be carried out free of charge.

Please click below to display dealers in your area or to check another vehicle.

Check another vehicle. Click 'Find a showroom' to the right to find your local Honda dealer

Please note: The results presented here are based upon information supplied by our service network and not carried out by Honda directly. The information should be checked with either your dealer or Honda directly if you have concerns.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ++++

Why can't the site be more specific as well as independant of our dealer network - don't they think we are capable of understanding an 'alarming' recall notice?

If it did give all the details it would be a very useful site when considering buying a vehicle - as it is it's just another 'Go to your local friendly dealer' notice and enjoy a coffee with a salesman...........

Yea I think no one was keeping a record of the fuel cap mod when it was getting done so dealers are checking when they get a car in

Any 'alarming' recall work would be specifically directed to the owner of the vehicle, saftey related stuff is dealt with directly. alot of 'recall' work is done while a car is in for general sevrice stuff as it isnt deemed as being 'urgent' or safety related. You will find that 90% of manufacturers are the same and as far as i'm aware, Honda are one of the few that even give you this opportunity to see whats outstanding on your car.

I also think it would be useful to have the required work listed so I could make a decision whether 'sooner' or 'later' applies.

Understand the differences in severity and how they are communicated - it just seems there has been an opportunity missed. Just because others don't do it doesn't mean Honda are right, better or can sit back. As with Kremmen, it would be more than just a nice to have, we should be able to make an informed choice. (My dealer isn't 5 minutes down the road.)

Lets see a more proactive approach with productive customer interaction and Honda leading the way.

Call me cynical, but maybe they lost the records. Happens with far more critical data than recall logs.

I dont know the ins and outs of the systems used but it mey be that the logging of info on the dealer systems to then be uploaded to the honda info systems to then be available on the websites may be an unmanageable task. In an ideal world it would be great to log onto the systems and see just what is outstanding on your car but there shouldnt be anything stopping you calling the service dept and getting them to look at what is outstanding on it, they would obviously be keener than you to get it in and done asap....

don't think the fuel cap was a recall for ages just fix the broken ones when it showed up they were all broken they posted a recall for all cars so if you had it they didn't know. Mine was done very early on but they said they had to check last service

I do and its not an unsurmountable task - like anything, just depends on how much effort they put in.

Mine was also done very early on but you would still expect them to have a record otherwise it gets very expensive for Honda (nearly double the cost if they do them all twice!!)
