I have mentioned in another post that one thing people seem to be forgetting when commenting on the stone chips they seem to have collected on the bonnet (mainly) is have you actually looked at how steep the bonnet on the Civic is in comparison to A other cars on the road and B other cars you may have owned before? Think about it if a stone comes bouncing off the road at say 70 mph then and your headed for it in a Civic then it will hit the bonnet, if however you were in a 3 series for talking sake then the likely hood is that the stone would hit the grill or the bumper because the bonnet is much more horizontal than ours! I don't think it would matter what Honda did to the paint, the fact of the matter is the bonnet is steep its at the perfect angle for stones that get kicked up and bounce up onto it and the hard or soft paint will not stop these chips from appearing! |

Agree with that, so, what can any manufacturer do to help prevent this ?
I would have thought that by now the technology was available to have a plastic/fibre bonnet in the correct colour so no paint was necessary ? |

There are two options to solve this problem:
1. Paint protection film - using a quality product, like 3M and not a piece of film off eBay should solve the problem of the film cracking or discolouring. Many manufacturers use this film around the dogleg sections of their vehicles from new with no problem. 2. Car repainted - Obviously the more expensive option, but if the lacquer is done with PPG's ceramiclear or similar then the paint will be as hard as nails and there should be a significant reduction in stone chip damage. Mercedes and other manufacturers use this lacquer with great results. |

Honda, may well do a runner regarding their 6 year anti rust warranty, if the car is re sprayed, not using their own paint. ??

Honda don't have their own paint. It is supplied to them by companies like PPG, ICI and sikkens etc and the anti corrosion warranty doesn't mean a thing as nearly all cars are galvanised these days and do not rust even when the bare steel is exposed to the elements. |

But we are talking about having a car still under warranty, resprayed, using a clear coat, which is not as per the original spec'. ?

You'd probably only get a 2 year defect warrenty from the body shop and as its a respray JTL is probably right, this would void the 6 year warrenty on it

On balance though if the quality of re-spray was above the standards that Honda use (i.e. better than pish), then the additional clear coat would add extra protection to the body work and there would be less of a risk of exposed metal to corrode.
Any existing bare metal would be covered or would still be obvious that Honda hadn't done it in the first place. As they don't count stone chips under the waranty, about 50% of your car isn't covered anyway. |

It makes you wonder what is actually covered on the paint warranty? Obviously corrosion is one thing but cars do not rust these days, unless you have a merc!
Personally, I would rather live with the stonechips than ever have my car repainted. Despite Honda having poor paint, it will always be ten times better than a top quality repaint. |

You obviously haven't got a NHB civ.
Mines looks like a black satsuma. With white flecks. And spider web swirls. As for it being metallic, well I can't see any reason for the extra doe. My old Anthracite ZS had tougher, sparklier paint. |

Had the Ventureshield done today, ended up getting full bonnet wrap, Door mirrors, half wings, and the whole lower front including all lights, plastic grill and spotlights, cost £400 will post pictures asap. Warranty covers cracking, peeling, bubbling or turning yellow for as long as i keep the car. Had a feel of a piece and it is extremely tough, i couldn't tear it. Only time will tell, but just having it done goes someway to eliminate my fears of motorway speeds and traffic.

ventureshield
Took pictures of front end, to be honest quite hard to see ventureshield, you can see a slight line on wings under certain lighting conditions.
