Respray Full body - how much?

Anyone know how much a respray would cost on a NHB type S gt 57 reg.

Fed up with the weak paint and chips, scratches every week. Shame cos it shouldnt be happening to a new car. But so long as the cost isnt prohibitive, i might go down this route.

Would a respray be the best solution to strengthen the paint job Honda should have done right in the first place?

That's certainly one extreme solution!I would wait say 6 months and see how things develop.Probably just reguire localised work-bonnet,front vallence etc.Probable cost around the £500 plus mark depending significantly on the quality of the body shop's work. The remaining paintwork could be profesionally buffed at the same time to fix swirl marks etc.

A full respray,if picked up on come sale time would almost certainly devalue the car big time

I have just had a price for my car to go in and have Ventureshield fitted, this will stop stone chips etc. quoted me £399, much cheaper than a respray

If you were to have a FULL respray done then you are talking removing glass, door panels, wheel arch plastics etc etc - you are looking at £5,000-£6,000 to have it done professionally. IMHO not an option at all unless you are having some sexy paint job/colour.

I once had a customer who had an Astra resprayed in a multicolour pearl finish and it cost £6,000 and that was about 6 years ago....

I had my Celica resprayed around seven years ago when some bugger scratched it on nearly every panel however it cost my insurance £2500 back then and the windows had to come out and I ended up with a new windscreen.

The problem is that the paint was softer than the factory stuff then due to it being treated in a low bake oven and probably they used a cheaper quality paint at the coachworks.
It was one of the top coachworks here in Ayrshire plus it was a black car, so it showed up all the light scratches when washed and dried. Pure nightmare...! Sold it shortly after.

They did a good job on respraying it but it was never the same the paint seemed to chip easier and scratch easier too. Just be careful.

Whenever you look at the cars on the main franchised dealers showroom forecourt they never have any stone chips.

How do the dealers solve this problem on p/x cars?

Chipsaway or similar ?

Why not use a protective film?
Much cheaper and removable when you sell the car, if you want to.

The protective films can be expensive and some of the feedback is not good.

Have a look at this thread (ie Post 40 from someone who has used one of the top brands)

Anti stone chip coving for your car only £10 (merged)
.

I looked at the getting the film applied, two things put me off. First one was the fact that on my way to the Cumberland Bar there was a cracking X5 outside, it had the film on it you could see it and it made the car look stupid as it wasn't all covered in it, just the front. Second thing that put me off it was the place that does it is the same place the dealers use, they would come and get my brand new car (before I had driven it) drive it to Broxburn along one of the crappiest roads I've ever been along full of all its lose chippings and loads of lorries going up and down it and then fit the kit. Guy said they knew how to treat new cars, but it would have been chipped by the time it had gone 20 miles to the place before they applied the stuff.

I could just imagine the chips and swirls locked in under that stuff for eternity. No thanks!

The link works in the first post he has done. I have to also add that the X5 I saw was Silver and the film had gone YELLOW that kind of nicotine stain colour. Not a good look, however on dark cars you wouldn't notice that.
