Indeed, it's the same here in France:
Petrol (euro85) : 1.399 euro per litre => 1.114 GBP per litre
Diesel (regular) : 1.318 euro per litre => 1.050 GBP per litre

As for Andorra :
Petrol (euro85) : 1.060 euro per litre => 0.844 GBP per litre
Diesel (regular) : 0.960 euro per litre => 0.764 GBP per litre

I go to Andorra twice a year, although it's much cheaper (low tax) it's still increasing

Your fuel now includes you road tax, we still have to pay road tax on top of £1.23 a litre for Diesel (€1.54 per litre)

Well, actually I believe there's no such thing as road tax.
Years ago, we were paying a yearly "vignette" but the fund raised were supposed to go in the departemental (county ?) fund for the elderly people !
Now the price of fuel is : gross + TIPP + VAT
TIPP being Interior Tax on Petroleum Products (also paid on the boiler fuel)
VAT is 19.6% and we pay VAT on the amount of TIPP (thus paying a tax on a tax)
The road tax is included the income tax and local taxes.
And obviously, we have a lot of paying motorways ! (Lyon's ring being one of them)

This being said, I feel for you all, prices are a little lower here, but for how long ?

Did anyone notice on JJ69's comments that Diesel is cheaper than petrol in France? But in the UK its about 9 or 10p more (depending on where you live)

Anyways I got my usual e-mail from 4car this morning and it had this little link in it about Eight Quid a Gallon by 2009. It says they predict that by then end of the year it could be almost £1.80 per litre for Petrol (so they probably mean 179.9p)! Have a look here Eight quid gallon by 2009? - Latest Car News from 4Car I have to say the guy predicting that oil would go past the $100 a barrel thing wasn't rocket science. We all knew it was coming at some stage.

The same here in Holland. Diesel costs now €1.33 per liter and petrol (euro 95!) is about €1.55 per liter, with big differences between petrol stations, and prices still rising.

We pay more "roadtax" for driving a diesel using car and buying a diesel car is more expensive, though, so there is a break-even point on which the experts (read: my colleagues ;o) don't seem to agree. Some claim a breakeven of 15.000 km per year, others go as high as 30.000 km a year.

I think (except Switzerland) that Diesel is cheaper than Petrol all over Europe (lower tax) it was here until a few years ago when the government realised saw a way of making even more money without putting the tax up as much on petrol (Gordon's Daimler and most of the MP's and their partners cars are probably petrol). They claim it is because of the sooty deposits so where is the discount if you run a Euro IV car then???

Agreed diesel is still cheaper, but for how long ?
The difference used to be much higher : 0.20 euro not so long ago.

The UK pricing is higher but fairer :
Diesel gives higher MPG and it's cheaper => 2 reasons why there are so many diesels here.

However I think the trend will reverse soon

If the Euro keeps strengthening, then we may see queues of French cars around Dover petrol stations with 10 petrol cans in their boots filling up on UK 'cheap' petrol!!!!

Talking to a workmate this morning fueling on the M6 and told that Derv has gone up again, now priced at £130.9 ! On being asked the attendant said it was 3p a litre cheaper on the southbound side " They sell more fuel northbound hense the increase"
I know what your all going to say, don't go in. But we are limited with the fuel card as to were we can fuel. Wonder if I get get my truck under the canopy at Tesco ?
By the way I paid £125.9 on the A1

Noticed a wee hike in prices up here from 108.9p to 110.9p and 117.9p for V-Power and 120.9p for Diesel. Great fun, took the car for a good blast again last night, some will be glad to hear that 25mpg running has returned after my trip had to fill it up today.....£35 for 30 litres not bad....then realised that I also have to fill up the M3 which is a 60 litre tank and i've left it with a quater lol!!! So thats going to be a cheap day out tomorrow when Dad takes it for a run. Oops!
