No, not being sarcastic at all, asked the original question as I thought I might be missing a valid reason why you should not publish your number plate, and you gave me that reason

Yes I understand - but as someone has said - you can view a plate from anywhere! A carpark - down your road parked in your own driveway - on ebay/auto-trader - on a car site like CarGiant etc etc - even on the Honda site.

Yeah, A1 was the very first number plate ever. Another one that went for hundreds of thousands was
K1 NGS. There was a lot of publicity about that at the time.

I had one which cost me £999 from the DVLA and I sold it for £4000. It funded the one I have now which I bought from the DVLA auction as a classic dateless plate. Just a triple number and 2 letters. It's great seeing real words made out of number plates WITHOUT being misspaced. One's like P1 ANO and MU51 CAL are great. Also, AR53 NAL. Trouble is, the DVLA cotton on so quickly it's hard to pick a new style one which makes a word which they haven't pulled for the auctions! I blame the online crossword helpers!! Nothing gets past them now!

K1 NGS sold for £239,000. It's a case of supply and demand, and with number plates they are only worth what folk are willing to pay.

they tell you not to misspace private plates but then DELIBERATELY put the price high on plates which would make words if misspaced.

Mis-spaced letters are illegal but IMO nowhere near as bad as the ones where people put screws in to make individual letters/numbers read something they are not.

They deserve everything they get.

i know
but they put the price high because they KNOW people will buy them and run the risk of mis spacing the letters.
double standards from the DVLA

i don't have a problem with mis spacing , fook em
but i do agree with screws, leccy tape (yes i have seen it) and the rest of the tricks

Type R plate

I live in Sweden and ordered my Type R on saturday (02/05), I have also ordered my personal plate which I will post when I get the car.

The dealer I ordered my car from has a demo Type R with a personal plate, have a look at the picture, not sure you could beat this plate.

That is a good one. Best type R plate I've seen, or likely to see.

How does the license plate system work in your country?? Does any of the number denote age of the vehicle or location??

I was really surprised to hear you say it is a geniune plate.

Bet you cant beat this numberplate

Swedish number plates are generally 3 letters and 3 numbers, no geographical location or indication of year. However the last digit indicates the month the car requires a vehicle inspection, I am not sure what happens if it is needed for inspection in Nov or Dec. Some letter combinations are not accepted (around 150) like UFO, XXL.

You can apply for a personalised number plate (similar to the UK) of any combination of numbers and letters up to 7 digits as long as it is not offensive. Like the UK you need to get in there quick for your plate. The other big difference is that the personalised number plate is an alias to a standard number plate assigned to the car so in effect your car will have 2 plates.

Anti-snob

I hadn't even decided on getting my new car when - as a 50th birthday present - my wife (with a little help from the rest of the family) bought me a plate with - her initial + 50 + my initials. As it was a surprise I don't know what she paid for it but it was held by Motor Marks who have been very good.
Unfortunately it's cheaper to buy one and not fit it to a car, but I think (as long as you don't have to commit an offence by altering the spacing etc) it's a good anti-snob touch. You aren't showing off how new your car is even when it is.

We've all got private plates in my family since my dad turned 40. He's got his birthday, i've got his birthday, mum's got hers and my sister hers. I've not got my birthday cos it was more expensive and doesn't look as good as my dads. My uncle's got his initials on both his cars. My dad's plate was £500 (*15 AUG), mine, my mum's and my sisters were £250 (*15 AUG, *13 JUN, *7 AUG)
