Private Plates
There seems to be a fair few people on here with private plates (from the uk) for there Civ's, but never see any about on the roads, just boring people with the **57 *** ect ect - What is reasonable to pay for a private plate?

I just wanted something very simple with my initials and found one about 3 years ago for £400. But you can pick them up for less (~ £200 - £250) if you have more letters/numbers
I don't like the new style plates as i think they look too cluttered. The simpler the better IMO |

Depends on how old the plate is, or whether it has some other set-up like a name (without 'doctoring' the digits).
I was offered £5K for mine by a dealer (that's what they said I could get - but they may have sold it for more). Have a look at this website for more of an idea: Regtransfers.co.uk ::: Your Search Results PS: Sorry, that link only takes you to their general page. I did enter 1 ALT as a search and it came up with £30K. PPS: Remember; if you do not space the letters and numbers correctly then you could face being pulled off the road as your vehicle is not 'road legal' and in the event of an accident you may be held responsible, even if it wasn't your fault, and you could find your insurance is void. Yep i researched all that, plus when i got mine, the dealer sorted my plates. so they where all legal, and i think that "-=Stella Artois=-" needs a space bettween the 4 and the R |

My plate was 250 quid: P4FET Seemed rather nice and easy, plus I'm tight too and didn't want to pay loads, like some I've seen VI 4 GRA went for 40K+, the one I really want 'P5YCO' is about 90k+ IIRC

With mine being a N. Ireland registered car I was very limited in choice, it costs a fortune to have an English plate transferred over and takes quite a while, plus N. Ireland private plates cost quite a bit more than the equivalent mainland plates, the upside is they are alot rarer over here! I was quite surprised when I first came to Uni in Glasgow and saw that an awful lot of cars have private plates here!
In the end I managed to get a nice short N. Ireland plate at an auction, IKZ 87 with 87 being the year I was born |

is there a part that represents the "year" (A) part for the area (ZK) and random numbers? |

For example the orignal plate on my car was MEZ 1127. The 'EZ' denotes Belfast as the place of registration. The 'M' sort of indicates age as they go alphabetically from A and up (e.g. AEZ, BEZ, CEZ...), but continually cycle and quite a few letters are released each year so it won't be long before they are back at 'M' again. The numbers from what I gather are pretty much random. It used to be you could be lucky and get a short plate when you registered your car but DVLNI caught on that they could make alot of money from reserving these and selling them off ![]() I've probably confused you, if you want to know more this wiki article is quite good, Vehicle registration plates of the United Kingdom - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Cheers! |

That is one downside though Kremmen, another is, it's one more thing to consider when you swap your car. Transferring number plates can sometimes be a right pain. |
