Curious "Fault" with doors

Hi there

Had my 5 door Civic for about 2 weeks now and have noticed that the doors do not "pop" open when you pull the door handle from the inside but you have to pull the handle and then push the door manually.

I have no problems with this really but I have noticed more than one passenger in the car who has gone to pull the handle but then think that the door has not been unlocked because it didn't "pop" open. This leads to much confusion by them because they think I've got the child locks or something!

Is this a Civic trait?

it think its a civic feature, but i havent really noticed that. The doors open very smooth in my car... Allthough the civic doors are quite heavy so they need a good push when opening them.

The door rubber sealing strip sometimes needs a little light lubricant rubbed around, particularly on the rear.

They do shut very tight. Stops any draughts though.

Funny enough had the same thing happen when giving a mate a lift to work he thought he was childproof locked in. Whether its because we don't use the rear doors that much and they tend to stick closed unless you giv'em a tug or harder push to open.

The doors are like that on mine too - doesn't "pop" - need to push to open.

Oh good! Not just me then!

It is a little strange but for me it's happened a handfull of times that it has become a minor annoyance.

I guess I will just have to live with it and i'm sure my passengers will catch on eventually!

The doors do close very tight indeed and in a few years when well worn you will be glad of it.

Mine are the same, but don't find it an issue.

Funniest thing is when people are trying to get in the back seat and can't find the door handle, it's quality!

Ha Ha yes..

about 2 weeks after getting mine I asked my 18yr old son to put my nephews car seat in the rear..

went out a few mins later and he was struggling behind the front passenger seat

I said 'why dont you open the back door?'

He looked at me and asked me if i was stupid, as the car doesnt have any £$%^&* back doors..

Hmm dad one that argument..

I tell people getting in/out "You don't have to slam these doors, they make them to fit!".

Yes the 'slamming doors' issue. Don't get me started on that one! Drives me insane!

sticky back doors on the civic..!

Yea me too I had sticky back doors on ma civic. Passengers used to pull the handle then have to put the shoulder into them to get them open..!

Solution... Wipe round the rubber seals with some furniture polish on a cloth.. Sorted..! Hey presto.. they open with ease now.

Furniture polish? I would be a bit concerned what the sealing will look like in 2-3 years. One can use silicone spray, works even with frost and is safe for the rubber I would suggest

If it is just silicone without any petroleum derivatives it will be OK I guess. There are several dedicated products but they are all much more expensive and I've never seen a lot of difference to plain silicone spray
