Maybe deep down we are all guilty of it, I mean we bought Honda's most of us bought that based on great reputation for a quality product, only for some to be let down. But that happens with most things in life.

Nowadays BMW's, Mercs and Jags are affordable to most people who can afford to buy a top of the range Civic, meaning there are more of them on the road, making them less exclusive therfore meaning that the whole badge status has gone out the window!
So why do ceratin marques, Honda included with the new Accord, and more recently Kia keep trying to convince us that they are moving up in brand status stakes ? Is that because it's gone out of the window ?

You are allowed to be wrong now and then you know. Admit defeat you know you wanna'

Are they trying to do that? And there was me thinking that they were trying to appeal to a different age market just like they did with the Civic.

Honda are trying to get away from being a company which is usually associated with a older generation of car drivers, well that was the message they were giving the last time I read their stuff!

To be really honest, in my opinion, owning a great car isn't about snobbery and or to be better than anyone else it's about having and appreciating great engineering and to a point how it feels, these things are often associated with the top end of the market and is why I aspire to an Audi or a Lexus Honda are still a long way behind yet. I have never quite understood how 4x4s have somehow shot to the top in social standings though this puzzles me.

There are some things things that Honda do well when it comes to engines. Lexus are Toyota, Audi are VW but yet would be seen in two different classes. Granted the finish in a Lexus and a Audi is much better than in the Toyota or a VW.

Ah the good old 4x4 driven by footballers and wags which seemed to do the trick in sending them right up there as the must have! Also ideal for blocking up roads in the center of town as they stop to take a phone call! You would think they could afford a hands free kit!

Don't buy a Ztec then TC, as that engine was designed by none other than Honda! And funnily enough it has been the most reliable engine that Ford have ever had!

All - bow down and give praise to " ANGIE THE WISE " ...

Badge quality ? - what the fu*k is that ? ...

It's the CAR that matters ! ... not the make \ name \ logo ...

I was never tempted to buy a Honda (or any Japanese car) before ...

But, it was 'love at first sight' (in the showrooom here in Stavanger) ...

We 'consumated our passion' with a 90+ kph test drive in 2nd. gear ...

And that was on a Norwegian Motorway (lose your license in 3rd. !) ...

Jaguar \ Ford ... Ugghhh ! ...

Mercedes \ Audi \ VW ... Boring ! ...

Korean anything whatsoever ... Puuulease ! ...

I can honestly say I've never been tempted by a BMW or Mercedes, most of them are just boring looking saloon cars. But I do like being inside the BMW 1 series, because that way you can't see the outside.

Maybe we should have a new thread:

When taking into consideration Performance/ Build Quality/ Features/ Service/ Cost/ Styling & Design - How would you CURRENTLY rank the different badges...

... in other words - which Badge is the Best... ...rather than "Which badge makes me look more important than the guy next door"...

I don't know what the fascination is with BMW's and Mercs. Thier styling is not to my liking and that makes thier manufacturers badge not to my liking. TBH unless you've got a prancing horse or raging bull on your car you really ain't got any bragging rights.

Quite!
But IMOH some people who know absolutely nothing about cars will judge a car by the badge, i.e. that’s a lovely car because it has a certain German badge on it

Angie is bang on about the loss of exclusivity with the likes of BMW/Merc etc, because now it's more about quantity than quality in my opinion.

It's basic economics, the more they build/sell the cheaper they can sell, and badge snobbery is rife , the 3 series outselling the Mondeo has to be proof of these factors!
