Angry B*stard!

So returning to my Civic Wednesday night in the NCP nearest Cardiff International Arena, what greets me...?

...my wing mirror hanging off with shattered mirror. B*stard!

The car was parked next to a concrete support so there is no way anybody walked past my mirror to get into their car... this was a deliberate act of vandalism, or possibly part of a bungled attempt to smash my passenger window as there was a muddy smear on the window heading in the direction of the mirror.

I am very lucky on closer inspection in daylight though as there appears to be no structural damage to it & the cover clipped right back on, unscathed apart from a couple of minor scratches. The auto-fold still works, as did the mirror adjustment...

...until Amethyst Honda fitted the new glass. It was in for the handbrake recall on Friday & they went ahead & fitted the glass (only £27+vat)... now the mirror only goes up & down, not side to side. They are taking another look on Saturday.

hmm, sounds similar to what happened to my old fiat punto sporting. I'd always go out of my way to park where it was difficult for other cars to park (sometimes some deliberate "bad parking" where i'd cross the lines of my bay so another car couldn't fit in it) or even right on the end next to the wall as to half the chances of some idiot opening their door onto my car and the likes. Once I came out of the cinema and went to my car and on the side next to the wall there was scuff marks on my door and the wing mirror had been pushed / folded in and that front corner of my bonnet was filthy and a few scratches also. I was soooooooo pee'd off that I went to the control room and demanded to see the CCTV footage before calling the cops..... turned out that some drunk homeless guys had just had a fight in the corner and fell up against my car. no major damage, but could have been a similar thing for you?

I'm sorry but THAT pi**es me off. When you are trying to find a spot in a crowded car park and some selfish bugger parks across two spaces.

You obviously don't care about your cars as much as I did, and as I didn't expect to have to explain myself to people who are quite tetchy about this kind of thing, I didn't go into as much detail as maybe i should have. Please allow me to continue:

1. I said "sometimes" and the "bad parking" was in "quotes" which you guessed meant I did it deliberately to make it look like bad parking. Now I hate actual bad parking as much as the next man/woman and I would definitely not use these tactics in a "crowded" car park.

2. Seeing as this thread was about a guy who clearly loves his car and damage that had been done to it I was merely adding my story as a sympathetic anecdote.

3. What I actually do is park in an UN-crowded area of the car park, maybe even the opposite end to the shops (or whatever it's there for) and yes, at times I have crossed the lines but ONLY in an un-populated area, just for extra measure. I do this because I don't want people to do the ACTUAL selfish and Ill mannered thing and prang my car with their inconsiderate door opening techniques. (In my eyes it's more selfish to just fling your door open onto another person's car than it is to go to lengths to avoid it)

4. In a multi-story / NCP type car park what I do (and what I did in this story) is park next to the wall so I half the chances of this happening.

I don't feel I should apologise or be picked on for actually giving a sh*t about my car.

Being picked on? Get back to the playground and keep kidding yourself that its not selfish to deliberatley take up two car parking spaces because you think that you and your car are superior to everyone else.

Yep, I agree. Who's to say an uncrowded car park won't get busy all of a sudden. I like to take car of my car as well by parking at the end beside a pillar etc but I would never deliberately take up 2 spaces. Tut tut young man

I can understand people taking up two spaces if they have a nice car but there's this guy at who who always does it and he has a four year old Renault.

Maybe as far as he is concerned, his 4yr old Renault is a nice car?

Personally, people taking 2 spaces, nice car or otherwise, really gets my goat, but that's not what is under discussion on this thread.

Ouch

Next time round, it's a bit further to walk, but the NCP just before the decorated bridge (half a mile or so back from the CIA) has a better reputation

All working fine - they didn't clip the glass in properly...

Thanks for the tip - where is the decorated bridge? I'm only an occasional visitor to Cardiff but almost always for CIA gigs so given my nasty experience I'm all up for an alternative car park...
