Retailer Badges

Hi guys, my first post here on Civinfo!

I bought my Civic from Alan Day Honda, Hendon, London. I've been very happy with it. However they unfortunately stuck a medal badge advertising their company below the Civic logo on rear.

Does anyone know how these are removed? I don't want to advertise them anymore, they've had 6+ months and i think thats enough

Hi I would assume its held on with double sided tape, just use a hair dryer on a low heat setting and it should come off easy enough, wipe over the area with a little white spirit to remove any adhesive, and re-apply a little wax or polish after..

Hi and welcome to civinfo.

I don't blame you for wanting the badge removed, I think that dealers should ask before they stick badges onto the bodywork. A sticker in the rear window is one thing but this is another.

Anyway, if you get some dental floss and then get gehind the badge and use the floss to cut through the adhesive by moving it back and forth, like a saw, the badge will fall off and then you can peel off what adhesive is left.

Sounds weird but it works, believe me. I got the tip off another user on here.

Keep it away from the paintwork though, so use it to cut between the badge and the adhesive pad. You can then slowly remove the adhesive by seeping white spirit behind it.

Good tips, above. However, I can't help but think that dealers shouldn't be allowed to do this, unless you opt-in.

My car has no marks of any kind which identify which garage sold it to me, and I don't think I would have accepted it if it did have.

Sorry for the semi-rant, I hope you get your badge of without trauma!

Wonder if that was one of mine? I got that tip from the LexusOwners Forum - dental floss with a hairdryer first to slightly soften the adhesive.

I don't think they should put anything on the paintwork either. One dealer put their interior window sticker right over the rear window heating elements so I asked them to remove it 'toot-sweet' which they did.

I'd take it back and ask them to remove it.

And be careful if you get them to service it. On a previous Civic I removed the dealer's sticker as usual when I bought it and when I dropped it in for a service they put another one on!!

I had that scenario on a Hillman many years ago, I removed it from the rear window and they put another one on.

They got the message when I peeled it off, went back to service reception and stuck it on their window. Especially as I'd been through this before and told them not to do it.

I agree, I'd make them remove it, if they f*** it up then they have to fix it for you, I would have gone ape-s**t if I'd picked my car up and it had this stuck to it. I mean a sticker on the window is fine as far a I'm concerned, but a badge on your paint, I'm putting a 'flag badge' on mine, by choice.

ATB,
Tom

I hate this, we're not travelling advertisements! There was a rear window sticker on mine which soon came off with some hot water, a sponge & a stanley knife blade. There's a Ford dealer around around here & a Renualt dealer further west that both stick MASSIVE BADGES to the rear of their cars.

Probably just to lift the corner, if you havn't got nails it's the easier option, personally, I just use a hairdryer for things like that.

When I ordered my Civic I told the dealer (Arnold Clark) that i would not accept any badges/advertising for them on the car unless they paid me an advertising fee. They didn't stick anything on the body work but stick a vinyl type yellow sticker on the top of the rear window, I peeled it off and stuck it onto the salesmans PC screen

I would take it back and demand they remove it, and also if they cause any damage doing so they should be liable. Mine came with the dealers website address on the rear window, stuck on squint, so that came off instantly. I would have gone mental if they had stuck anything onto the paintwork.

Mark, Listen to me.
Here in Greece the Importer of Honda has this obsesion to stick these stupid badges on all cars he imports (Honda, Mitsubishi,Volvo) I really hate that so with my previous Honda and with this one I just peeled it of by hand. A bit of warming with a hair dryer would help. Don't forget to go slow. It's only 2 sided sticky tape. Some dental floss could help you start it, and then pull it off by hand. I have done this to 2 cars and everything was just fine.
