TBh, staring down the barrel of a gun is the scariest thing i've ever had happen to me, yet, no one it seems nowadays seems to think twice about it..... the care I take on the range, whether I'm using BP, Shotgun or Rifle is immense, I have to shoot for one year at a club, be vetted and checked by the police, and then have a gun safe installed in my house to keep the gun safe..... yet in London a Gun can be rented for 150 quid!!! This country has gone to pot, and yet the government has said, with all the stabbings etc., we should all be "have a go heroes", not bloody likely mate.... I come from a long line of very old cowards, not a short line of young heroes.............. is it any wonder the young have little respect when the parents have even less......? Wow Jayne what a story and so sorry to hear about your cousin.
Sadly it does seem the law rather protects the criminal more than the innocent - I know that we need proof to convict someone but surely there has to be justice too! There seems to be many reasons bounded around as to why kids are like they are today and I don't think there is an easy answer. I also think that is part of the cause too - too many theories not enough action. It's time the government realised that taking away physical punishment at school and even stopping national service took away a very important part of the learning of respect in the UK. At the end of the day it is 'respect' that we are talking about. The bible says 'spare the rod, spoil the child' there might be something there! We need affirmative action, courageous politicians and a big stick to sort the situation out. Quote:

I shouted at a kid a few weeks ago for......get this...... urinating in the hedge on my drive!!!!! He just wandered onto my drive unzipped and went.............. the nerve of these kids (him being about 10-11), and when I dared to shout oi!!!! I got the finger, a "f**k off" and a saunter off home...... No respect these kids, in my day.... during the war..... so on and so forth, but should anyone have to put up with this???? Tom |

When i was younger my parent's smacked me and my brother and sister and none of us have turned out to be emotionally and physically abused adults - we knew that if we did something wrong there would be punishment for it.
I think as soon as you take away effective punishment as a deterrent or whatever it moves the goalposts and gives kids a chance to 'try it on' I don't know what the answer is I just know that somehow we have to take back the initiative and take control again. parent's really do have to take control of their kids and discipline and spend time with them and so on. I actually agree with David Cameron's 'hug a huddy' idea because at the end of the day kids just want to feel loved and cherished and sadly that is missing today. What that doesn't mean is not giving tough love too! |

I'm doing the next best thing. I've had enough so over the next 12 months or so, i'm clearing as many debts as i can and am planning to leave these wonderful shores and go somewhere slightly less scummy. Forever.

joking aside, I dont think that we are that far from a revolution of sorts as it is. Stabbings daily with the Police/government unable to do anything will only end up with vigilante style repercussions. Its only a matter of time before the general public start taking matters into their own hands.

I'll tell you something, I'd never ever call the police again, (getting told, "we have no officers avaliable to come to your assistance" & "Sorry it is is not within our remit to deal with these sorts of problems", until they knew my gf was hinese, then they couldn't do enough to help!!!) they are just so useless round here.....
I agree, the revolution is coming..... Tom |

The best bit, living in south london, is when you do actually call 999.......then get put on hold until there is someone available to answer the call. Now that's funny.

I was in my car being attacked, first they told there was no one to help, and then they rang mer back and asked if he'd left me his insurance details (my reply "Yes he left them under the wiper he just ripped off!!!!").
You couldn't make these things up! Tom |
