Any French drivers on the forum
Off to Le Mans soon and was wondering what the price of unleaded petrol is in France? If it's cheaper over there will just put enough fuel in the car to get me to Calais and then fill up.

You could also check Comparer les prix du carburant
It's a collaborative place where real people input real prices on daily basis. At home prices are as follow S98 : 1.605€ per litre S95 : 1.495€ per litre D : 1.514€ per litre D+ : 1.554€ per litre E85 : 0.89€ per litre HTH |

yup there's heavy taxing on fuel here (called TIPP), and much heavier on petrol than on gasoil, up to the point that gasoil is artificially cheaper than petrol whereas taxless it is the opposite... at least until the prices have risen because of heavy demand (80% of new cars and more than 60% of current ones are diesel), now they're even. I predict sky-rocketting prices for diesel here in a few years. and people over here don't understand why I buy only petrol...

Slightly o/t here but I've just been in France (well the realm of Mickey the money grabbing Mouse mostly) and I didn't see a single Civic....
I saw mainly French manufacturers and a load of Mercs - Just wondered if the Civic hasn't caught on so well? (and why did nearly every car appear to be dented?) |

there's only 50 or so dealers spread over the whole territory... this is a thousandfold less than each french manufacturer. many people don't get to honda because this would mean having to do 200~300 km for anything the dealer is needed.
yet, what honda france got right is that they give you a booklet with each dealer location, including a local map and directions, along with a full france card (useful in itself) with all dealers locations. really a treat when you don't have a navi anyway, as soon as you get close to a town with a dealer, you begin to see lots and lots of civics. in my area I encounter at least one or two a day, more and more hybrid, and some type-r regularly. also, in some other areas people look at you like you're landing a sr71 blackbird on the road, since they never ever saw one! and even more when my type-r bangs around! |

I've just been over too France (Saint Jean D'angeley) for my nieces wedding. Their was over 300 Guests for afternoon drinks and my Civic drew loads of attention, spent most of the time opening it up for folk too have a closer look. We only spotted a handful on the drive down and back.

Yes it is a lovely area, my sister and her hubby moved over there about 6 years ago. La Rochelle is one of my favorite sea side towns. The Sat Nav (3.23) was excellent over there, in fact appart from the new By-Pass near Le Mans, which according to the family was only opened a few weeks ago it was spot on. Also my snooper worked really well and is now a must with all the sneaky Gatso's that are just sat on top of walls. |

Good stuff, I give the car a brief run in France over the Easter weekend and all went well... Off to Saintes last few weeks of July so looking forward to it and of course La Rochelle... No doubt you know what the parking is like there so we normally park on the south quay (free all day!) and take a water taxi into the old harbour, sheer delight... Cheers, Bob... |
