Civics being Stolen

There is an article in my local paper this week saying that Honda Civics are being targeted by thiefs and that several have been stolen over the last couple of weeks and urging people to take extra care on locking their car, it does say it is mainly older models but then inside the paper it mentions the same story again and has a picture of a 2006 civic.

Wasn't there 2 or 3 stolen in that area back in February?

My car is parked on the drive mostly and when i'm not in the keys are with me (and half the time I can't remember where I've put them so good luck to anyone who breaks in for them!)

Its getting a bit scary tho, there has been Stella's and the other boy from Northern Ireland in the past couple of weeks. Just makes you wonder who's next!

One at the weekend on this site was a Silver Type S that the poor sod had just had colour coded about 24 hours before.

The rest I have heard of have been Type R's as they are the car of choice for theives at the moment, but then some of us hear about them being stolen more due to being memebers of type r owners sites

Woah!, I live just on the Paisley / Glasgow boundary

Though I'm a normal Civic, not a Type R.

Hopefully my new "HONDA" brakelight and pumping mix CD doesn't make it more desireable the next time I'm passing through Seedhill

Will be wearing body armour the next time I head to Halfords

If your Civic is a 55, 06 or 56 plate, you can set the doors to autolock.

There is a thread somewhere explaining how to.

My Granparents live in a not too desirable part of Glasgow and I've not even ventured through there with my Car yet. Its that bad round there that when either my Mum, Dad, Aunty or Uncle turn up with a new car there is usually a knock on the door from the neighbour asking if it belongs to anyone as she always thinks that someone has stolen a car and parked it outside. You'd think she'd know by now! And who would park it up so carefully right outside someones gate?

See with all these car jackings and thefts going on it is beyond me why Honda disabled this feature in newer models

I had to check when you posted this TC !

I saw an article about a year ago (our local Gazette) that said exactly the same. Went on to also specify older Civics and also showed a 2006 Civic in the picture.

I wonder if they have rerun an old story ?

Cheers Alan, I always flip my locks on when I get in

Can't be bothered putting Auto lock on but I'll waste time putting on one of "Gers" brakelights, vanity over safety eh (I'll get it done shortly though!)

I had a read at the other thread regarding the Type S in Northern Ireland, I'll certainly be keeping the keys upstairs and not in the hallway (fishing through letterbox risk)

Maybe there has been a increase in 8th Gen's being stolen and they have decided to run it again. Or maybe its because some insurance companies are contacting customers to let them know about this rise in crime and how to best avoid it.

I know that my e-mail has been flooded by Esure (my mothers insurance company and she used my email addy) advising a rise in car thefts by keys from homes and car jackings

It is because the car does not auto unlock after an accident and if the car has locked itself, Honda in theory could be sued, whereas if you lock your own doors then it is down to you.

I hope no one tell my insurance co as they have just quoted me £239 with protected no claims on 20000 miles a year. And before anyone say pensioners get cheap insurance I am not even 40 (yet)!!

Possibly

My spare keys are in a locked cashbox and the originals don't sleep downstairs overnight.

Plus:

The Civ is in an interior locked garage which has no outside handle or keyhole. It's electric so I have removed all the manual bits. Once the garage power is off the door is locked solid by the chain. If of course they know what's in there.

BMW put in the auto locks on the M and the car doesn't unlock when the ignition is turned off or in the event of an accident you have to pull the door handle twice, however my Mum's 5 does the opposite and unlocks when the ignition is turned off and in the event of an accident.

Even if Honda gave customers the option to have this switched on or off and then something to say that in the event of an accident they couldn't hold Honda responsible if they couldn't unlock the doors etc
