Hang on, something must be going on here! It can't be Swindon's fault that the Civic has problems - as pointed out they make the CRV and have made a couple of previous generations of Civic if I'm not mistaken and none of these had poor reports.

My verdict - cost cutting on certain components and a car rushed into production before everything was fully tested/proper manufacturing process in place - hence the huge amount of problems with early cars. Its gradually improving now (as far as I'm aware), but obviously this is no recopense for those with problem laden earlier cars - all issues should have been ironed out pre-production. Not good enough for any car manufacturer, let alone Honda.

Reminds me of British Leyland, in fact...

My Civic has been the most reliable and best build quality of all my cars. Above Toyotas, Land Rovers, Vauxhalls, Nissans...................Aston Martins haha only kidding on the last one

Totally agree everything cannot be put down to swindon
The fact is that the majority of civics are well built ( though may still have one or two little niggles) but there seems to be quite a large number of civics that have more than their fair share of problems

If Swindon can build the CR-V as well as they do - why can't they do the same with the civic ?????????

The quailty of the parts they are given to work with.

As said, the previous Civic gets top marks throughout.

I've ordered one anyway!

Hello,
Yes, I've seen the report too but only after I ordered a diesel Type S.
Never mind: since I had the chance to lurk on this forum and read the comments, I know the Civic is not without possible faults but was heartened by your survey which does to seem most of you are still pretty satisfied with the vehicle.
Most cars are, IMHO, a compromise but I wanted to drive a smaller car (sign of age!) and, besides I liked the two test drives.
Hope to take delivery soon.
Human nature being what it is, you will probably hear from me if the owning experience proves not to be so good but I hope I have the good manners to report if all goes well too.
Regards.

The Civic is certainly the most problematic car I have ever owned:

-handbrake
-3rd gear
-clutch master cylinder
-city pack falling off
-general rattles

I had no problems at all with my Ford Escort or Ford Puma.

I don't think it can be put down to being built in Swindon though as I also owned a Swindon built EP3 Civic that gave over 4 years of flawless motoring. The Civic's problems are down to the design.

My experience is that within a factory, the quality produced by each line varies, and the good lines consistently out-perform the bad. On the bad line the standard of each worker varies, a completely useless worker can go unnoticed for a long time, and he's the one that built mine.

Also, it might be that Honda have gradually deskilled the workforce, taking the view that a simple job can be done by anyone.

I've had nothing wrong with mine that would make me class it as "unreliable". 14,000 miles of problem free driving so far...

I'd agree in as much as:

It starts every morning
It hasn't ever broken down
It doesn't feel unsafe

I would say however that it is without doubt the most problematic car I've ever owned. I'm just glad it's still under warranty. Just had all of the rattles fixed (including the front end knock). I realise now just how noisy it had become.

The dealership have also informed me that the front discs are worn out. I ask you, worn out indeed?? What are Honda making them of if they are worn out after only 25000 miles??

We are looking at moving away from Honda before it starts to feel and sound like it's buggered again.
