Hot Wings
I went on my first longish trip yesterday - about 80 miles to Birmingham and when I got out of the car (after leaving the turbo to cool for about 20 seconds) I noticed that both front wings were hot but the bonnet was cold
Is this normal for a diesel? Cheers |

definition of hot required.
cant hold hand on wing - not right warm to the touch, heat dissapating (sp) from brakes, tyres etc - quite possible. bonnet cold = noise/sound insulation under bonnet. |

Not from the wheels/tyres as touched these too and they were slightly warm but not as hot as the wings. It maybe heat from the engine, and as the bonnet is insulated the only place for the heat to escape is via the wings Also - another point - I had my lights on for the full journey as it was raining very hard (another British summer) |

Black should dissipate the heat better than any other colour.
Is it both wings or one more than the other? Also as there is an aerodynamic undertray on the Civic, the exhaust manifold heat cannot disipate as easily. The top of the engine is plastic, so most heat will have to be lost lower down. Perhaps we sould have Ferrari like cooling vents on our front wings. |

Also, I parked in a multistory car park and the rain had dried on the wings but the rest of the car was covered in waxy rain bobbles (mmm - if you know what I mean) - water beads - that's it |

I would agree with you NoNumpty my car wings do get as warm as you say. I didn't really think it was a problem more of a 'feature' of the car.
