Front Passenger Airbag

Hi everyone. This is my first post although I have been a member for a while now, finding the site very useful too.

At the risk of sounding stupid, I have tried to find the switch which deactivates the front passenger seat airbag so I can put the child seat in. However despite looking around the dash etc & consulting the manual I am unable to see if it can be turned off.

Does anyone know the answer?

Thanks

Hi,

"IT CANNOT BE TURNED OFF" (is what will get told to you by Honda), Honda won't do it and there is no switch, I think thats silly personally, but apparently it's a liability thing, as although it is deactivated it can still be activated at speed in a collision.

Although the civ does come with ISOFIX in the back for your car seat.

It cannot be turned off and does tell you this in the user manual.

It's ALWAYS safer to have the child in the back seat whether or not there is an airbag

It can be de-activated, as posted in the thread link shown.
I think if more people requested this to be done, and of course re-activated when required then Honda might seriously think that a switch is a customer requirement.
I can see the queues at dealers now

Definitely can't be deactivated, tried asking my dealer to do it but they said no. They didn't want to risk any come backs on it in the future

Also, even after de-activation there is the potential that if the smash is big enough it will still go BANG.

Unlikely as the the handbook from page 34 to page 64 covers all the aspect of the subject and all the warnings against putting baby in the front seat are repeated many times. This seems to tie up with all the safety tests on the subject so if we have another baby (when my wife stopped laughing she said not a hope)this one would stay in the back like the others did all those years ago.

Hi guys! First post!

Seriously, these things would break even Iron Mike's nose if they went off, so always best to have your precious little cargo in the back, as far away from it as possible!

Thanks very much to you all for your help & advice. Looks like the little one will be staying in the back of the rocketship but Ive yet to convince the missus as her Megane has the switch to deactivate the airbag.

It is the safest place as proven by all the official tests

The Stealer is talking rubbish, it can be deactivated; just that they don't want to do it.
The passenger Airbag is a safety device that supplements the seatbelt, but isn't necessary. The point as to whether you'd want it switched off in a crash or not is a different matter.
The Drivers' airbag is a different animal and can't be switched off.
If it's off and you crash it won't deploy, not like the earlier mechanical airbags, these need an electrical signal; so no connection no power.
