adapting to a more aggressive driving style
I'm driving a civic 1.8 for the last 3 months; and i like it.
Although the car is not really fast; i don't like to drive it slow; lets say under 4000 rpm when accelerating. I think is boring then. Above the 4000 I really like it. So what happened; i adjusted to a driving style of speeding and always looking out for speedtraps; like Niki Lauda on his way home. Every morning before i go to work i think: today i'm gona drive it slow and behave myself. Unfortunately; that feeling only lasts for about 3 minutes. Is this problem familiar with you guys or is it just me who needs to learn how to control oneself? I just think it's not the comfortable car to cruise; but more like the car to push. is it bad for the car (engine, suspention) in the long term to rev it up an drive it fast when warm? Did anyone feel difference in quality-appeal when you compare a mileage from 10000 with one form lets say 80000? |

Same problem here mate. But petrol prices calmed me down. But in any case although not a fast car it never dissapointed me (except rattles) So far Mercedes CLK 200 Kompressore beaten, BMW 520D also and the last one few days ago a Lexus IS200 TRD (5 speed automatic) over 200 BHP and a lot of medifications. I know the guy owns it because it used to work for my father. So every now and then I am giving it a try but mostly calmed driving.

I drive the diesel but I find it difficult (and indeed a bit boring) to drive slow. Accelerating is so effortlessly with this engine you're doing 150km/h before you've blinked your eye.
So I try to keep it down a bit, but quite often I don't really succeed in that. |

hey all... its true, civics feel like they are meant to be pushed. its that vtec noise, so addictive.. i am usually driving late at night - around 2am, most other cars on the road at that time are taxis or police, but that still doesnt stop me driving 2 miles slow and the odd 400metres like a quarter mile drag strip! then again i am only 19. but i too find it hard to cruise, and i dont know if anyone else has this problem... but when your driving fast my gear changes are swift and non jerky, when driving slow - ie. 1st -2nd gear at 14mph, 2-3rd at 27, 3-4th 30-33mph i slow my gear change right down and that actually with my mind and i do worse gear changes... and dont say its because im 19, i used to be in formula 3000 on the bmw sauber team when i was 15.
back to the point, its boring driving slow, and furthermore i realise already how our lives are run by far too many laws...if you want to drive fast, it should be your choice, fair enough speed limits around schools et.c, you do get the occassional ar%ehole, but why at 3am when i am driving do i stop at redlights when the street is dead, why when there are no cameras do i do 53mph in a 50, or 44 in a 40.... who is there to catch me... this is a nanny state... forget autobahns and the nurburgring... im moving to the isle of man! haha |

Honestly... I can easily driver more relaxing in my Civic.
However, old one... now that one just screams all the time to rev it over 5.5k, and it's close to impossible to drive it slow |

You'ld drive it slow if you had Lady H. beside you!
It's not just your licence she'll take away! ......but I do nip out occasionally to get a loaf of bread from the motorway service station! "On one of our trips to the States, I lost the corkscrew. We had to live on nothing but food and water for several days!" |

You're so right man, earlier this week i told my wife... this civic ain't the car for me (i drove a volvo before the civic).. when i get behind the wheel, some little devil takes over control and this car is just begging to be driven swift... It's because it's so responsive and sporty... love the car (although not the built quality i had in my Volvo) !!
