HELP - lost wedding ring under seat

Sitting in the civic tonight, fiddling with me wedding ring as usual. Next thing in falls off and under the seat. I try to pull it out with my finger only for it to fall down the little slit in the carpet for the cable.

I have tried a coathanger etc but to no avail.

any advice greatly appreciated.

PS Yes I know I am a numpty.

How about:

  • Disconnect the battery and wait for at least 3 minutes.
  • Remove the 4 plastic caps at the front and rear of the seat runners.
  • Remove the 4 bolts from the seat runners.
  • Tip the whole seat assembly forwards to get the ring, making sure you don't stretch all the wires near the front underside of the seat (you could remove these if you want to).
  • Bolt it back up again.
  • Reconnect battery.
  • Remind yourself to not be such a numpty in the future.

Caught empty handed!

Hi Rod,
Just why did you need to remove the curtain ring in the first place?

Ha Ha. I was innocently waiting for someone to open the gates at work and they were late. I tend to spin the ring round and round when waiting......well, its better than smoking.

It does sound like some surgery is required as per Pottsy's post - best of luck.

If your'e confident there's no electrical wiring close by you could, using a sharp stanley knife carefully put a cut(slit) in the carpet where you believe the ring to be.You'll probably never notice the slit again under the seat

Never thought of that - yep, that's what I would use as ploy 1.

They really are good for finding lost bolts in engine bays.

Rod, You'll find the carpet has some slits in it already so you should be able to get it easily once teh seats not in the way.

Cheers for all replies folks,

The nice people at my local (ex) Honda dealer had it out in no time. They also said it was a common request.

No more fidgeting for me.

Lightbulb Permanent fix

RULES

1} NEVER-Never-never be so foolish as to actually get married in the first place (or - in my case - places !)

2} In the event of breach of Rule 1}, totally avoid the imposition of any kind of 'tagging' devices (bracelets \ anklets \ rings \ etc.)

3} If you really MUST fiddle with your wedding 'taggles' then do so with extreme care, especially in public and \ or in daylight

4} In the event of all the above being ignored and leading to loss or misuse of said 'taggles', not even the best dealer can help you - only divine intervention is good enough - as an alternative, use of a ball-peen hammer could be considered (to remove the undesired 'bumps' under the carpet !)

p.s. - I shall be forwarding this to Honda, for inclusion in the next update of the 8th. Gen. Civic's manual ...

For gawds sake don't let "Er Indoors" see you trying to recover the said ring with a magnet, or she will know that she married a tight s-d.
