I reckon the safeest place to keep anything is under the back seat. My kids are forever misplacing things in the car, and for some reason the last place I always look is under the back seat, where they inevitably are. The amount of space underneath is huge.

Very comforting really - we can all rest easy if there are any rear wiper or spare wheel 'tea leaves' about!
Have a jack that is superfluous to requirements. |

Sorry, not mentioned at all Charles- you obviously have not given it (should that be the lack of it) a high enough profile. Besides, we all know that the under boot void is the number one hidey hole for portable sat navs.
Perhaps just the EX's should come with a spare then |

Even if it had a lock, please donot lock it for heaven's sake, a thief will break it to see whats inside, even if its empty! I've had that before (not being the thief!)

I've a lockable glove box in my 307... and used once to avoid my wife to look in ( her birthday present was in .... unpacked...) but as said above it's useless as an anti thief tool.

Thats where I keep the laptop out of sight if it just for at short amount of time. Guessing it better than stepping out of the car with the laptop and putting it in the trunk and everybody can see that theres a laptop in there. Another safe place is probably in the empty room where somebody else have a can of gunk for the tires. |

You are luck you didn't get sued for that! The poor crims have it hard enough without being stabbed by dangerous cars that they are stealing stuff from! Did you try to follow a blood trail to his house? |

I dont have a spare so anything valuable can go in my "secret floor" I have a black towel over the floor of my boot to keep it extra clean (not that I am fanatical or anything) so when you open my boot the lift up lid is out of site

Coming back to the original topic, it is surprising how many dealers still list a locking glovebox as a security feature.
I keep meaning to get the details and say I'll buy if it meets the posted specification, then point out their error! It is a good question to sales people to see if they know their stuff though. Terry |

I have to say that in the inside cover of my catalogue there was a sheet of A4 with an addendum saying that the lockable glovebox was not to be included... That was back in August last year!?!
Surely the catalogues are sorted by now... |

I love lockable glove boxes - they are so much fun to unlock when you are driving along and only have one set of keys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (bit like being towed out of a lay by and forgetting to put the keys in - that armco looks arggghhhh!!!!)
Must confess to leaving my Garmin in the armrest occasionally but usually I take it with me - thats the benefit of a hand held/transportable unit. Has anybody had any experience of the StopLock Security Boxes and if so where did you bolt it and are they any good? I have considered modifying the the secret compartment in the boot - sheet of steel between the carpet and lid and a couple of locks in beefed up mounts and decent rebates for hinges - shouldn't be to difficult. Issue still applies - you need to put stuff in the boot without anyone noticing. czechplastik I think the issue is not the finding of miscreants but the process of actually taking action. I have the dubious pleasure of living in a county with the most ineffective constabulary in the UK (Official apparently!). You can report a crime and they will tell you on the phone they can't/won't do anything. I know it's a resourcing issue and prioritisation of calls but it's a serious concern! Bye bye Civic!!!!!! |

I reported a car break in yesterday (saw it happen, but not my own luckily) and it took about 3 hours for the police to turn up, they looked at it and then drove off again.
Wasn't a chance they were ever going to catch the guy, and it was just so annoying to watch the lad do it knowing he'd get away with it. |
