Question Lockable Glovebox

Apologies if this has already been discussed - I did search but came up with a blank. The other day I was flicking through the brochure Honda sent me last year, and noticed that the spec indicated that all Civics came with a lockable glovebox. Now unless I'm seriously losing it, and some say I am (whilst others say that I never had it in the first place!), mine doesn't have a lock. What happened? Or did they change the spec? Over and out.

No lock on mine either, and have given my brochures away to a friend interested in the civic so I can't look it up.

It isn't good if The Doctor is losing it, but then I lost it ages ago so it doesn't matter.

erm...what did I lose?

À la fuel filler-cap, maybe, i.e. locks with the central locking, but doesn't have a lock of its own (eh?)?

I was thinking that - but if so, it doesn't lock when the car auto-locks at 10mph

though that is probably a good thing!

It doesn't lock. It was a last minute change to the spec, and thus some brochures incorrectly stated that the glovebox was lockable.

A good thing to imho.

When they want what's in your glovebox (even if it's nothing) they'll open (AND DAMAGE) it anyway.

Anti-theft wise it's a stupid feature, any other reasons why it should lock?

Funny you should say that - I was thinking about that today!

Although, it's strange that they put it in the brochure and then "changed their minds". Surely it wouldn't have cost them that much?

Mind you, whether or not my car had a lockable glove box (mine doesen't) or not, it wouldn't really have chnaged my mind about he car, I still would've bought it, with or without the lock!

I wonder if it was dropped because of the NCAP test?

Well, it might deform differently if locked, versus just shut etc. In theory it could reduce the size of the survival bubble.

I used to use the locking glove box but that was on a Peugeot 206 CC

Roof down left it a bit exposed. (eek!).. "lock it" was the only option to stop someone leaning in and grabin it.....(Sat Nav etc)

Yes ... it would have set the alarm off but they would just leg it....

Ahem,

Ancient Nerd, any thoughts on this? Brochure says one thing while in reality it's not true.

I've never used the lock on a glove box so haven't missed it at all! There's never anything valuable there anyway, right? That's what the space under the boot floor is for. Now if it just weren't for that spare tyre that we get as standard here...

I asked my dealer what happend to the glove box lock when placing my order dealer said the car did not have one the brochure i had at home stated that the car did have one. Have experienced brochure changes on another car manufacture they reserve the right to change spec with out notice so there is no come back on honda for this

They did the same thing with the CO2 emissions on the i-Shift models.
Changed them without even notifying the dealers. It placed the Sport & EX models in a higher VED band.
At one stage the latest printed brochure showed one thing and their online brochure another.

I noticed that too! Bit cheeky (of Honda) I thought.

My Accord used to have one; I can tell you now, I never used it ONCE! Had it from new since 2003 and exchanged it for my current Civic.
