If not a Civic what car would you choose?
Looking through this forum there are a number of members who are not totally pleased with there Civics, before I bought mine I looked at most cars in my price range (1.8 SE) and was not over impressed with anything. I am curious to know if I have missed anything.
So the question is to those who are unhappy, what car would you choose to buy instead of your Civic? |

Dave don't think you missed anything. I too looked at everything in the same price range (and a few grand above) and was none too impressed. I think that most of the not so happy owners are a tad peeved that they bought their civic expecting the usual Honda build quality and have been badly let down. Sad fact is that when car manufacturers launch a new model there always seem to be teething problems with them so it is possibly best to wait 12 months and then buy one when most of the problems have been ironed out.

If the fab Civic didn't exist, I would probably have gone for a Mercedes-Benz A with 3 doors and plenty o' trimmings. It would have cost me dearly, so I would have had to take a loan of a few thousand euros.

The only other car i looked at well before the civic was the new tigra but as my other half has a 2 seater it would not have been practical. if the civic hadnt come along i would probably still have my zr.

I really like the Merc A class (couldn't afford the B class) but the boot was far far too small, as I have 2 border collies that have to jump in from time to time!
Almost bought a Focus Titanium, but went for a test drive and didn't think it felt that nippy, also my boyfirend sat in the back and his head was touching the roof!! The Golf Plus was another option but the salesman was useless, no one from the dealership would give me a price after chasing them for two weeks I gave up and decided if they were like that before a sale, what would they be like after! I first looked at the Civic in November, paid a deposit in December and then cancelled it a week later as I was worried it was the wrong choice, re-ordered in January and it arrived in February, I waited til the 1st March for it as I wanted an 06 plate and the rest is history |

Till now, I am still pleased with my civic. No problems till now at all.
If there was no civic, it probably had been the ford fiesta ST. The main reason is the power and that my girlfriend likes the fiesta... Next to that my budget wasn't high enough for a bigger car with power. (except for the civic). |

was going to be a new shape TT - but the lack of a fifth seat (combined with the savings to be made by selling wife's 206 and getting a 'sensible' 5 seater) put paid to that
So we then looked at the usual suspects Golf, A3, A4, Mazda6, BM 1/3/5 series nothing really did it for us, then we happend to wander into the Honda dearlership.... and the rest, as they say |

I had my heart set on an Audi A3 but changed to a Civic as I thought it offered more car for the money. I was also drawn to its design and the fact that it was new and bound to be a head turner for a while. I expected Honda to match Audi with regards to build quality but I'm not so sure now. I still think the A3 is overpriced, whereas the Civic is about right.
