Cost of Second Service

Hi everyone

I have just booked my Civic in for its second service. It has done 14000 miles and is a 56 plate.

The garage have told me that the cost will be £263. Does this sound right or am I being ripped off?

Victoria

Hello Victoria,

Glad to have you with us.

Depending of your car (Petrol or Diesel ?) and what did your garage include in the service (replacement car and so on) it is average or expensive... or even cheap (if it include brakes padle for example...)

Happy new year

Its a rip off when you consider it only costs around £110 for the Genuine parts and just over an hour to do!

Depends on how much a mechanic would charge on top of the £111 it cost for parts really?

If it's 50 odd quid then I guess it's worth it.

The £111 is for parts only including the oil. I spoke to a local garage out of interest and they quoted maximum 2 hours labour, so depending on what your local garage charges....... Cheaper than Honda though!

As I said, it all depends on what your garage or mechanic charge on top of the £111 for parts.

If the garage or mechanic charge say £50 then it would be worth it providing the above £111 is for parts for a major service?

Anyone know what additional parts are required for a major service over an interval service?

The 2nd service (told by Honda that it was "the biggie") consists of only

Oil
Oil Filter
Air Filter (relace in 1 minute flat)
Pollen Filter (takes 4 minutes flat)
Diesel Fuel Filter

Thats it for cost parts

Then the rest is just visual checks

Is that really all the parts?

And they charge £285 for that?

Yep!

I did mine saturday morning, seriously, my mother could have done the service, the actual handbook for the civic shows you how to do the air and pollen filter anyhow, these two are the easiest bits, Honda must be raking it in on services!

If you service it yourself does it invalidate the warrantee?

Depends if you are a trained mechanic with a VAT registered company ( I guess being of the mechanic type of business)or not! If yes then you can do it yourself, if not then no!

Yes, once the warranty has expired, you could save cash by doing it all yourself.
