Civic meets winter.

How is everyone finding their cars now the cold weather finally seems to have arrived *

Personally I found that mine doesn't behave any better than my previous (cheaper) cars in that, though getting the ice from the windows is easy enough, the condensation inside the car takes about ten minutes to clear. It seemed awfully "wet" in there at seven this morning. I even observed streaks of condensation on the "head up display" from the centre console to the speedometer, which worried me a little. The exception to this was the rear window which, even with the de-mister on, still hadn't cleared after twenty minutes. I was hoping for a little better to be honest, as it was ten minutes before I was able to pull away. I know taking a rag to the condensation is quicker but I do prefer clean windows. My dad used to have a Ford with a heated front windscreen, and any condensation cleared in seconds.

* I appreciate some members come from parts that still have real winters, not the "cool and wet" nonsense we seem to get in northern England these days.

You might have a leak somewhere, mine is fine, the back window mists a little but it soon clears once the rear heater is on, as for the rest of the windows, they have only ever steamed up once when i have had five people in the car and it was bloody cold outside.

My front & side widows clear very quickly & the rear window only takes between 5 & 10 mins to clear.

I don't have a problem too, it all clears quite quickly the bottom half of the split rear screen is a bit of a pain at night time when it has condensation on it as it reduces visibility.

I do miss the heated front screen I had on my focus it was great on a really frosty morning.

Yeah, not brilliant but not as bad as yours by the sound of it. The rear window takes a while but the windscreen clears really quickly.

A bit of warm water from the hot tap and the ice is away in seconds.

I found my Civic covered in ice the past three mornings, but inside everything was fine. With the de-mister on, the front windscreen clears pretty quickly, faster than that of the Fiësta of a friend of mine and he has a heated front windscreen.

I appear to be standing alone!

I wonder if the issue might be exacerbated by the fact I live in a depression, with higher ground all around. It's also quite rural around here.

JB75,
That condensation sounds excessive. As Itsrelfy says, you may have a leak, worth checking all carpets for dampness, in the boot as well.
If the problem is geographical, what was your previous car like in comparison ?
Also, parking a hot car late in the evening can make matters worse. I keep our Civic in garage and get zero condensation.

Ahh, Yorkshire. I remember it well. Indeed, a depressing place.

Well it is dark and cold!
The diesel is a slow starter in the winter and even more so to warm up!
It seems to take an age to clear the screen, even with the A/C on, although this one is better than my old 5Dr Civic The little rear window does mist up a bit though, so I'll probably get the anti fog out with the rain-X next time

...

I had a Fiat Stilo prior to this and it was no better to be honest. I reckon there could be a geographical aspect to it; we often get mist in the street at this time of year, but by the time I reach the main village road, which lies about ten metres higher, its nowhere to be seen.

mine is a bit slow to clear and heat up not a patch on the 307 heater but no more than 2-3 mins to clear and be ready to drive, ive notched the car does steam up abit if i turn it of auto 1 of my past mowns but if you leave it on 20-22 c auto seems ok , so it would check for leaks too.

my Mini had that too, i think they licensed it to BMW but only for the Mini or something. the regular BMW dealer guy knew nothing about it being available and reckoned it wasnt possible but it was definitely there!
and i miss it, you'd be away in no time at all.
made windscreen replacements a bitch though
