Well, they don't anymore!
There was a way to reveal it in 2006 but in 2007 it is disabled.

In fact it is not that much a problem.. Just a push on the button. All you have to do is to remember.. I am afraid of the thieves too, so I never forget.

Its an ass covering thing, if your car auto locks the doors and you have an accident and can't get out, the manufacturer would be in big trouble if you died!

In USA the cars I have driven have auto locking. I can't think of a country more prone to litigation!

They should make sure the system opens the doors in a accident, not just turn it off , another honda short cut i think.

It's a good idea, but i think while theres always the possibility it will fail they won't do it.

With the Golf if the doors are locked and you pull the handle twice then on the second pull the door opens. I can't remember right now how you unlock the door on the civic if it's locked other than with the button and it's too cold to go out an look now but had Honda wanted to I'm pretty sure they could have implemented a similar system.

like on my clio the doors atomatically lock when you first start driving but if you pull the door handle the doors open, it just overrides the locks
