Thumbs up Good Points?

Hi Everyone

As a reasonably new member (about 3 weeks now) I have been logging on every single day and reading new threads.

I am, however, a little concerned...

There are a great deal of posts on this site detailing your complaints and problems with your cars - some which sound appaling.

Given that I have yet to receive my brand new baby, and am now concerned that I may have spent a load of money on a dudd, PLEASE can people reply to this post with the things that they love about their car?

I'm interested in those that have never had probs, or those that have and have had them sorted with relative ease. Or just general things that you love. I'd really like to get an idea of the numbers of those of you who are genuinely happy with yr Hondas and the service received.

Please help to put my mind at rest... (or I may end up cancelling my order)

Talking problems

Hello Lexie, I think the red ones are much better build, I have "only" the fuel-cap, the rearlights, some moisture under the seal of the rearwindow, and at km. 12000 a little oil added, so far...........

I understand your concerns and it's probably something troubling new members or ones that have also recently ordered. Topical web forums by nature tend to focus on negative aspects. Its often the only place where queries, concerns or requests for advice is easily found. Look at all the help and advice, how-to's and fixes members here have posted for the benefit of others. In terms of faults and niggles, if I hadn't found/joined the forum I wouldn't have been aware of any issues with the fuel filler cap, would have thought my noisy window was unique etc. Its a way of ascertaining whether problems are unique or common-place. The forum is also a place to impart opinion hence some of our members expressing unhappiness or annoyance with the cars + Honda.

In reality whilst there are clearly certain issues with the cars, the vast majority are minor faults and niggles. Rarely has a serious fault come to light. Some members have obviously had more faults that others and this seems to be with the earlier produced models. The car is brand new, from scratch and faults are to be expected, this is true of all new cars, niggles are fixed throughout the lifespan .Seemingly as the months go by the quality is improving and numbe of faults reported reducing. Clearly Honda are slowly recognising the faults and taking action to remedy them. I have also found my dealer helpful in dealing with the few issues I have had, and there are similarly pleasing storys on the forum. Unfortunately there have been a few unhappy punters who have not recieved the service they deserve. In my opinion the problems are minor and while annoying do not detract too much from the enjoyment of the car because the positives make the car a pleasure to own.

You were obviously attracted by the funky looks as were many others, once I saw it I had to have one! The advantages and differences over other cars in the class are marked. The exterior styling is one thing, really stands out in a sea of Astras, Golfs and 'focii', the dashboard in fantastic, draws looks from everyone at traffic lights, is logical and simple to use. The standard kit available on the models is far above similarly priced models from competitors. Overall the build quality is good and looks set to last. The engines are superb, especially the diesel. The car is fun to drive, grips well and makes normally boring journeys fun.

Look beyond the negative comments and threads, as said above this is typical of web forums. The vast majority of members really love their cars and take great pride in them. Your model is presumably being built this year which makes me confident some of the issues affecting earlier models will have been looked at. Any faults you have will (fingers crossed) be minor and you've already made postive remarks about your local dealer. If you want piece of mind ring them and seek assurances they will fix any issues for you.

I'm confident most people will back me up on this and agree the car is superb once you look beyond the minor faults this far! If you don't like it I'll buy you a TT or something!

I was also becoming worried in exactly the manner described in the top post.

If these niggles are all with the early models and the newer ones seem to be OK then that is to be expected I suppose.

As an example, I currently have a Lexus IS200 and the logical next step would have been the Lexus IS250. However the Lexus forum is littered with new model problems, and that is from Lexus. The main problems seem to be rattles from all manner of places, plus a rearview mirror that vibrates so much that you cannot see what is behind you (I had that on the courtesy car). A few owners getting locked out because of keyless system problems, etc.

I am hoping that Honda are now fitting the modified fuel filler at the factory and not using up what is in the 'parts bin' before fitting them as standard.

The main reason for me coming to a Civic was that I need to maintain a similar or slightly smaller footprint than the IS due to garage space. Also now become used to Japanese reliability so it seemed a logical move.

I agree with CZ. There are some faults, which are solved correctly in the most cases. I have some minor faults, but are really happy with my choice and wouldn“t buy another car.
The car looks good and drives superb in my opinion.

Ultimately there a no major faults leaving anyone without a car for any real length of time. Things have and will continue to improve.

Mine's been in a few times, but there's been nothing I would describe as serious. That's what the warranty is for, to iron out any bugs or niggles.

Once you get driving the car, Lexie, you'll be more than happy trust me

Lexie,

I concur with CZ 100%..... Apart from the TT bit (sorry)

I don't think you have anything to worry about... just the nature of forums

I've had mine a fortnight now and, touch wood, it's running perfectly. I suspect that a lot of these complaints have escalated because of poor reactions from the dealers.

Lexie, don't cancel!!! Some people have been very unfortunate and got a real "Friday afternoon" car, but most of us with older cars have had minor issues that the dealer has been happy to resolve.

I got mine last April and normally I would be bored with a car by now, but not with the Civic. I still really enjoy driving it; there is something about the car that makes me totally forgive it's few shortcomings

I have had a few of the problems, fuel filler cap, squeaks and rattles from the dash and a dodgy radio. Apart from the radio all seem to be sorted now and I can live with the radio until Honda come up with a fix.
All in all given the stunning acceleration and cruising speed of the 2.2 and the overall package I would not swap the car for anything. You won't be disappointed I can assure you.

Well I think the final straw was last night when I read about Audijohn's troubles and then everyones probs wih cracking foglights at £150 a throw. Fogs were supposed to be a bonus...

I was seriously thinking of cancelling as there seem to be so many probs and I have a number of other ways I could spend £16k!!

With no offence intended - There are some real moaners on this Forum.

Have a look in the Buying section at my thread 2007 model year cars
you will see that the newer cars are either perfect or have had the fuel flap problem - which now seems to have been given a final fix that works.

You need to remember that most of the members on the forum have '06 build cars and that most of the problems have been with these cars - this is a problem that affects all motor manufacturers launching an all new model they are bound to have a smallpercentage of cars that will be poorly built or have other associated problems.

The '07 Build cars seem to be much better. I do feel sorry for the people with problems - but it come part and parcel of buying an earlyh all new model

Something else to think about lexie

Honda have built over 105,000 Civics compare that to the number of members on this board!!

O.K maybe that isn't very fair - but you can see where I am coming from
yes there may be a few thousand of these cars that have problems
no mass car manufacturer could say that all their cars are perfect

I think that if our new civic is problem free I will be leaving the forum

Yep - you are right. It was just a bit of a concern that is all, but what you say makes sense, Bro. Thanks for understanding!

I only had 2 very small problems, nothing what can't wait until the first service to be fixed then.

I wouldn't give my civic up for anything, well ok maybe for a million pounds, but only then to buy loads more civics , and a couple of bikes, a house, a horse ....

Anyway the forum members, who had a few bad problems with the civics, still wouldn't change it to another car say Ford etc.

Lexie you decided on a great car, and no matter what you will enjoy driving it. Some cars just simply come with little faults, nothing which can not be fixed

silly to buy a new model

I bought a new civic early last year because of honda name.
I still enjoy driving it but I don't see why as we were all testing the car for honda we shouldn't at least get them fixed.

I glad all the latest owners are happy

But do not tell us to stop moaning

I want my car fixed
